There is a cursed rode in Red Dead Redemption 2 that is setting people, carts, and horses ablaze.

We’re not sure why there is a patch of dusty road in Red Dead Redemption 2 that is lighting everything that walks over it on fire. Some say it’s just a glitch, one of many that a game the size of RDR2 was just bound to have. Others say it was intentional, a “feature” left in to correspond with Halloween and with Rockstar expertly timing when such a glitch would be discovered for maximum spook factor.

And still others say that this patch of road is truly cursed, giving life to the many superstitions that littered the Wild West.

The earliest report of a cursed road comes from YouTube user Haruna Miyazawa who recorded a certain path near Rhodes that seemed to be randomly torching anything that walks over it. She first became suspicious when she came across the road with over a dozen burnt horse corpses like it was a witch coven’s BBQ cookout. But upon closer inspection, it seemed that the road itself was causing AI-controlled characters and their wares to spontaneously burst into flame.

As you can see from Haruna’s video, as soon as anything sets foot on a specific patch of land it starts taking fire damage, eventually combusts, and then expires. It doesn’t take long for a pile of burnt-out carts and corpses to accumulate, with the AI unable to put two and two together to avoid the invisible flames.

According to the video description, this patch of road was originally intended to be a random encounter, but instead it’s just random invisible fire. Which certainly counts as random.

Haruna is hardly the only one to report this glitch. Other players are also wandering across this hilarious and terrifying patch of road and posting it to social media.

So far, Rockstar hasn’t patched this out, so it’s best to avoid this specific area of road unless you want to end up on fire. In the meantime, it is the perfect spot to loot some corpses and acquired some pre-cooked horse meat--if you’re into that sort of thing, anyway.
