As we approach Cyberpunk 2077's second anniversary, it continues to experience a resurgence that appeared to be beyond CD Projekt's grasp not too long ago. So much so that the studio has revealed more than one million people have been playing Cyberpunk every single day this week.“Each day of this week Night City has been visited by 1 million players, both new and returning,” CDPR tweeted. “We wanted to use this opportunity to thank you for being with us and playing the game.” The second chance for Cyberpunk has been brought about by a number of things. Mainly the reveal of its Phantom Liberty expansion, launching in 2023, and its Edgerunners TV show which debuted on Netflix earlier this month.The reveal that more than a million people have been visiting Night City every single day this week comes off the back of Cyberpunk registering some impressive new numbers on Steam. It shot back up into the top ten most-played games on Steam following Edgerunners' launch and has since registered its highest player count on the platform since January 2021.
The million visitors per day milestone will have been helped by Cyberpunk being half price last weekend. Some of those players may never know about the game's early issues. Issues so severe that Sony delisted the game from the PS Store for six months. CDPR has achieved what once seemed impossible by getting Cyberpunk to where it is today.
Both the new and returning players have the aforementioned Phantom Liberty DLC to look forward to in 2023. Well, providing they are playing the game on anything other than PS4 or Xbox One. CDPR will not be rolling out the expansion on last-gen consoles, admitting that compromises would have to be made for older systems due to the sheer size and scope of what's to come. It will likely be the only expansion Cyberpunk gets, but the studio appears to have other plans for the Cyberpunk IP.
