Are you ready to get Cyberpunk-ed? CD Projekt Red are here to drop a little insight on their much-anticipated RPG.

Now, as everyone in the industry knows, a little thing called E3 is right around the corner. On June 12-14, the Los Angeles Convention Center will be packed to the rafters with developers, publishers, rabid fans and heavily-perspiring journalists. With the show being imminent, nobody wants to reveal too much of their biggest upcoming titles before the fact.

Still, CD Projekt Red’s President Adam Kiciński was cajoled into giving us a choice info-nugget or two yesterday. Speaking at the company’s fiscal year presentation for 2017, he explained that he wouldn’t be divulging anything about what to expect at E3 until ‘just before’ the show. Despite that, he couldn’t resist dropping a little hype-talk about Cyberpunk in the process.

For the uninitiated, Cyberpunk 2077 is a futuristic RPG, set in a huge, open-world metropolis dubbed Night City. Key to the gameplay is an intriguing new mechanic known as Braindance, whereby the player character can ‘tap into’ the thoughts --and even movements—of others via a digital implant in their brain. Think of it as a kind of possession, only much more fancy and futuristic-sounding.

Cyberpunk 2077- CD Projekt Red Talks Character Creation And Classes
Via: VG247

The game is a huge and ambitious project, and there’s still so much that’s unknown about it. A while back, it was rumoured that the game had changed course dramatically; that there wouldn’t be character classes or anything of that nature. As Dual Shockers reports, though, Kiciński squashed that idea at the presentation. Cyberpunk certainly will feature a lot of avatar customization. Character creation, a range of classes… it’s definitely in.

Aside from that, everything’s quite enigmatic. On the subject of Cyberpunk and next-generation hardware, Kiciński stated that he can only speculate on what these next systems may be. The game, nevertheless, is “very advanced,” and “ready to interface with future generations.” He also spoke of the possibility of adding multiplayer at some point in the future. For the present, though, the focus with Cyberpunk 2077 is on a great and expansive singleplayer experience. With no microtransactions, we’re promised.

This talk of a multi-generational game is intriguing, but nothing’s set in stone just yet. One thing’s for sure, though: there are some huge industry showcases coming up, and we’re going to hear much more from CD Projekt Red in the coming weeks. The Witcher 4 may never be happening, but the studio’s got something huge in the pipeline with this one.
