Cyberpunk hotfix 1.12 is out and it’s got a very short list of changes. Nothing has happened to the overall gameplay and there are no bugs or glitches that have been fixed. The only thing that CD Projekt Red has removed is a vulnerability that could inadvertently turn Cyberpunk 2077 into a vector for viruses.

"This update addresses the vulnerability that could be used as part of remote code execution (including save files)," writes CD Projekt Red, but doesn't really tell the full story.

For that, we turn to Eurogamer. A few days ago, modders discovered that Cyberpunk suffers from a buffer overflow issue that could essentially turn non-executable files--like regular old game saves--into executables. This meant that a clever hacker could hide a virus as a save file, post it online with a bait-worthy headline like "100% complete save file," and then gain access to someone's system when they download and play it.

To fix the issue, CDP got rid of that buffer overrun that was part of the exploit, and also removed/replaced some non-ASLR DLLs.

There’s still a lot of work to be done on Cyberpunk 2077, which still suffers from plenty of bugs, some of them game-breaking. This prevalence of bugs and glitches has perhaps resulted in over 2 million refund requests, according to a recent poll.
