It’s Hangeul Day day in South Korea, also known as Korean National Alphabet Day. It’s the day when Korea commemorates the creation of their alphabet by the 15th-century monarch, Sejong the Great. In South Korea, it takes place on October 9th, but in North Korea, it’s celebrated January 15th. Don’t ask why there’s a difference.
Today is coincidentally also the day that CD Projekt Red has announced they’re reversing course on their decision not to record lines in Korean for Cyberpunk 2077. While last year, CD Projekt Red said they wouldn’t do it, a deluge of “passionate” Koreans have changed their minds.
"Thank you for your passionate voice. It was heard loud and clear,” said Marcin Iwinski, co-founder and joint owner of CD Projekt Red. “I would like to officially announce that we have decided to move forward with the full Korean voice-over and that a free language update will be available for all of you in December, shortly after releasing the game."
Cyberpunk 2077 arrives on November 19 on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It’ll have recorded lines in Polish, English, German, French, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, and now Korean, while Italian, Latin American Spanish, Hungarian, Czech, Traditional Chinese, Thai, Turkish, and Arabic languages will only be supported with subtitles.
In other Cyberpunk 2077 news, you can now order Cyberpunk 2077 x Old Spice gift sets if you live in Ukraine. Spotted online a few days ago, these official Old Spice crossover hygiene products are marketed as "Roamer" scented, which doesn't really tell us much, but you can get it in shower gel, deodorant stick, or body spray form.
Also, Cyberpunk 2077 recently went gold. This doesn't mean that development of the game has stopped, as no game actually ceases development until there aren't enough players to support it, but it's a nice throwback to a bygone era when developers pressed golden discs to represent a "master" copy of a finished product.
