City planners were on hand to help with the design of Cyberpunk 2077's Night City, which means it should be quite an adventure for gamers who purchase the 2020 title when it drops.

Night City is supposed to be a city set way in the future and it looks like exactly that, but CD Projekt Red wanted it to work like one too, which is why it summoned the experts.

The developers touched on the topic during their Deep Dive video/Q&A session a few days ago, revealing that they'd consulted real city planners with the aim of making Night City as realistic as they possibly could.

According to the game's quest designer Phillip Weber, CDPR was pretty thorough with the design and placements of buildings, streets, and everything in between, down to the traffic moving through the city.

The devs also want to make the layout as organic as possible so players can get around easily. It's not that hard to lose your way in a game if you aren't paying attention to the map but CDPR wants gamers to be able to tell where they are and how to get to where they want to by simply looking at what's around them. Of course, it's still pretty easy to get lost in a big city in real-life situations even if what's around you looks familiar but players should be able to learn the map by its landmark overtime - at least that's the aim.

Cyberpunk's map will be based off a system different from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. While The Witcher's map was generally flat, Cyberpunk 2077's will have content on different levels so players will have to look up and down instead of keeping the focus on a horizontal plane if they want to experience everything the game has to offer.

The developers also discussed Night City's Pacifica district, which has been a subject of keen interest, as well as the game's character customization settings. But that they went through the painstaking process of designing their map should earn them some kudos.

Cyberpunk 2077 will drop for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on April 16 next year.
