CD Projekt Red found itself briefly in hot water with hopeful fans of Cyberpunk 2077 after its ESRB rating included a mention of “in-game purchases” which lead some to believe that there would be microtransactions added to the game, something that the developer explicitly stated would not be the case.

As it turns out, the plan for no microtransactions remains intact, and CD Projekt Red clarified that the description from the ESRB is now required for games that may have expansions in the future. The addition of future DLC has already been confirmed by the developer, and like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, is likely going to come in the form of extensions of the main story once finished.

This is a relief to hear, as CD Projekt Red is one of the few remaining AAA developers that have not shifted their monetization models towards an endless push of in-game purchases onto their consumers. The game was expected to release this past April but was delayed to September 17. Since the delay came long before concerns over Covid-19 emerged, we might see an additional delay, but nothing has officially been stated in this regard.
