Cyberpunk 2077 features a variety of different weapons, including power, tech, and smart guns, all of which have their own specific benefits. The catch is that each of these weapon types can only be equipped if you have the corresponding cyberware, which can make it difficult to actually use them if you're not totally sure on what you need to do so.

Fortunately, we've been playing Cyberpunk 2077 quite a lot here at TheGamer, and have learned all about the different weapon types in the game. As a result, we've been able to put together this Cyberpunk 2077 power, tech, and smart guns guide designed to tell you exactly which cyberware you need to effectively wield all of them.

Cyberpunk 2077 Power, Tech, And Smart Weapons - Which Cyberware You Need For Each

First of all, we've got to separate Cyberpunk 2077's special weapon types into distinct categories.

  • Power weapons are guns that fire projectiles that have a chance of ricocheting off of hard surfaces.
  • Tech weapons are guns that fire projectiles that are capable of penetrating hard surfaces, which means they can be used to attack enemies behind cover.
  • Smart weapons are guns that have homing systems built into them, meaning that their projectiles can follow enemies, guaranteeing a hit.

Now that we've briefly explained the unique benefit of each weapon type, here's a breakdown of the cyberware you'll need for each of them.

Cyberpunk 2077 Power Weapons - Which Cyberware You Need

As mentioned above, power weapons include guns that are capable of firing projectiles that can ricochet off of hard surfaces. This chance is set to 5% without any additional gear, but you can dramatically increase it - as well as the number of times a projectile ricochets - by equipping certain cyberware.

In order to benefit from a greater chance of ricochet, you'll need to equip cyberware known as Ballistic Coprocessor. This is cyberware worn on your hands and also increases the number of times your bullets can consecutively ricochet. If you want to pull up a projected trajectory for your bullets, which will allow you to track potential ricochets, you can also equip the Trajectory Generator mod.

Cyberpunk 2077 Tech Weapons - Which Cyberware You Need

Tech weapons don't necessarily need a whole lot of cyberware - instead, you'll mostly be using skill trees to increase their value. While you can obviously equip cyberware of your choice anyway, it's best to focus on cyberware that suits your playstyle as opposed to cyberware that will boost tech weapon performance if you plan on using this type of gun.

To get the most out of tech weapons, you'll want to invest skill points in the Engineering skill tree. The perks in this tree can massively increase your effectiveness with tech weapons, especially if you're using them as heavy-hitters by charging your shot before firing it - which can deal devastating damage to enemies behind cover.

Cyberpunk 2077 Smart Weapons - Which Cyberware You Need

In order to use smart weapons, you absolutely need to equip a certain kind of cyberware. These guns cannot be wielded unless you're currently wearing Smart Hands cyberware, which will give you full access to their homing projectiles. Smart weapons are a great choice for tactical types who use the environment to their advantage, as you can use homing projectiles to guarantee direct hits on your opponents while hiding behind cover.
