Cyberpunk 2077 has officially returned to the PS Store, but Sony continues to recommend you don't play it on a base PS4.
The saga is finally over. Well, sort of. After a six-month absence, Sony has deemed Cyberpunk 2077 in a worthy enough state to once again grace the PlayStation store. Cyberpunk's return was officially announced on Twitter this morning, but there's an added caveat for anyone thinking of firing up their console and buying it as soon as they possibly can.
"Cyberpunk 2077 is now available at PlayStation Store. Work on the PS4 version continues, with fixes and updates to be released throughout the year," the tweet reads. In case that implication wasn't enough, PlayStation then adds this. "For the best experience on PlayStation, playing on PS4 Pro or PS5 consoles is recommended." The implication that despite Cyberpunk's return, those using a base PS4 should probably continue to avoid it.
In any other situation, an addendum that a game is better on a PS4 Pro or a PS5 would be little more than a throwaway comment. The consoles are newer and more powerful. However, a tweet sent from the official Cyberpunk account reads, "you can play the game on PlayStation 4 Pro and PlayStation 5." No mention of playing it on a base PS4 at all other than the reminder that a free PS5 upgrade will be released later this year.
Cyberpunk's removal from the PS Store happened all the way back in December of last year, shortly after the game's long-awaited release. The game's issues, especially on last-gen consoles, were so plentiful that Sony decided to delist the game and even adjusted its own refund policy. CD Projekt Red has been hard at work attempting to reverse that decision, revealing recently that Sony had given it targets to hit before it would allow Cyberpunk to return.
While those metrics were never revealed, it seems CDPR and Cyberpunk have managed to hit them. A huge relief for CDPR as it admitted earlier this year the Cyberpunk's absence from the PS Store was affecting its sales on other platforms too. The 1.23 patch added last week might well be what tipped the scales, although some players have reported the update has actually added new glitches to the game.
