There are many gamers who are excited to get their hands on the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077but they might want to invest in an external hard drive if they are purchasing one of the console versions of the game, as Cyberpunk 2077 will take up at least 80GB of space.

The official Cyberpunk 2077 page on the PlayStation Store lists the game as requiring a minimum of 80GB of free space for the digital version of the game.

The large file size for Cyberpunk 2077 is to be expected, considering the quality of the graphics and the sheer size of the game world. The 80GB file size is going to be more of a problem for those who possess consoles with 500GB of internal memory, as that will take up a huge chunk of the space on their system. The gamers who have a console with 1TB of internal memory should have less of an issue with the file size, as well as those who purchased a compatible external hard drive.

The file sizes of video games have been increasing steadily over the past few years, with a 50GB install size rarely batting an eyelid for most gamers. The only company that seems interested in keeping file sizes down is Nintendo, which is mostly due to the small internal space of the Nintendo Switch and the fact that the system has to rely on SD cards for more space.

The exact file size for Cyberpunk 2077 has yet to be revealed and the number on the PlayStation Store could possibly be an estimate. Cyberpunk 2077 is still a long way off, and it's possible that the file size could be reduced in the final product. It's also possible that the file size could increase by the time of release and that console owners might need to free up more space than they originally realized.

Cyberpunk 2077 will be released for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on April 16, 2020.
