Cyberpunk 2077's release date being delayed until December 11, 2020, is even having an effect on the release date of other games.

2020 has changed the world in a number of ways. The global issues ongoing throughout have also had varying effects on the gaming industry. For some, business is booming. As people have been forced to stay at home with nothing to do, more people have turned to gaming than ever before. However, with people working from home and unable to progress with certain projects, delays have been coming thick and fast.

The latest of those delays hit Cyberpunk 2077 earlier this week. CD Projekt's much-anticipated title has the potential to be the game of the year. However, if it's delayed again, it might not even see 2020. Cyberpunk will now not be released until December 11, 2020, at the very earliest. CDPR has cited problems with the current-gen version of the game as the reason why revealing that the next-gen and PC versions of the game are ready to go.

A further delay to Cyberpunk's release is annoying enough for those eagerly awaiting its arrival. However, it turns out its release date getting pushed back yet again is also having a knock-on effect elsewhere in the industry. It has been revealed via Path of Exile's official site that the release of its end-game expansion has been delayed, and it's all Cyberpunk's fault.

"We do not want to put our players in a position of having to choose between these two games, so we have decided to step out of the way and delay the release of Path of Exile 3.13 until January," the statement reads. Developer Grinding Gear Games adds that the delay will not affect its development schedule, but may well have a knock-on effect on its release schedule moving forward.

As for Path of Exile players who won't be picking up Cyberpunk and will want new things to do over the holidays, that newly-opened gap will be filled. Grinding Gear will be filling the void with at least one multi-week event during that time. Path of Exile 3.13 will now be released in January 2021, although an exact date has not yet been given.
