Daggerfall is an iconic piece of video game history. The Elder Scrolls 2 coupled with Redguard paved the way for Bethesda's future offerings, including Morrowind, Oblivion, and of course, Skyrim. And now, you can experience the fantasy world of Tamriel through the barrel of a gun.The Future Shock Weapons mod, courtesy of numidium3rd, takes the weapons from another Bethesda game and ports them into the Daggerfall Unity remake. That Bethesda game is The Terminator: Future Shock, a Doom-style first-person shooter from 1995 where you play as a human fighting for the resistance against armies of robots. Your boomer shooter arsenal includes such weapons as an Uzi, M16, shotgun, laser rifle, heavy laser rifle, plasma rifle, grenade launcher, and a rocket-propelled grenade launcher. None of these weapons are even remotely appropriate for Daggerfall's fantasy setting, but that's what makes this mod so much fun.Related: Morrowind And Daggerfall Don't Need Remakes, They Need NovelizationsFuture Shock Weapons just adds the guns, but it doesn't add a gun skill. Instead, adventurers will have to level up archery to make sure their bullets and laser blasts deal maximum damage. You might notice that the non-hitscan weapons still shoot arrows instead of plasma blasts and rockets--that's because numidium3rd still hasn't been able to reverse-engineer Future Shock's 3D model format and is "stuck" using arrows as placeholders.

Check Daggerfall's loot piles or store inventories for these weapons. They'll all use the same "firearm" item template but will be different depending on the material. The higher the material level, the more powerful the gun will be.

You'll need both Daggerfall Unity as well as The Terminator: Future Shock installed in order to get this mod to work. The good news is that both these games are available for free. The bad news is the instructions are a little complicated, so I've copied them down verbatim:

  1. You must have an install of Terminator: Future Shock. This mod loads all its audio/visual assets from it.
  2. Move (or copy) your Future Shock install to a short path on disk (e.g. C:\futureshock). Otherwise the path string will not fit in DFU's mod settings field.
  3. Download the .zip and extract the .dfmod to the "Mods" folder in your DFU installation.
  4. Launch DFU and click "Mods" on the bottom-left. Select "Future Shock Weapons" and click "Settings".
  5. Click the text field under "Future Shock GAMEDATA path" and enter your Future Shock GAMEDATA path. Make sure put a "\" or "/" at the end depending on your OS. For example: C:\futureshock\GAMEDATA\ on Windows or /home/futureshock/GAMEDATA/ on a UNIX-based OS.
  6. You should be ready to play now. Check your Player.log for errors after a short session to make sure nothing failed silently.

Head on over to Nexus Mods to download the Future Shock Weapons mod for Daggerfall Unity.
