On Thursday Spike Chunsoft released their classic game Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc for mobile devices on both Android and IOS.

Danganronpa is a visual novel adventure, and the first game in a long series of titles. Players step into the role of Makoto Naegi, a new student at the mysterious Hope’s Peak Academy. Shortly upon arriving Makoto finds himself and 14 other students trapped inside and the only way out is to commit a murder without getting caught. It’s the player’s job to deduce who the killers are, find out the secret behind the school, discover who’s pulling the strings behind the shadows and escape, or be trapped there forever.

The game has been very popular on prior ports and this particular version is a 10-year celebration of the title’s original release. There is some slight controversy among fans regarding the pricing of the game. For starters the game sells for $17.99 on Android via Google Play and $15.99 for IOS via the Apple Store. Android users seem a little annoyed that they’re paying a higher price for the same game when compared to Apple users. The other issue for some is that the mobile version of the game is only a few dollars cheaper than the Steam version which came out four years ago.

In spite of these minor issues, the initial reviews for the game seem rather supportive. Some users are reporting a few bugs, but overall the consensus is that the classic was ported really well and is enjoyable on mobile devices. If the game proves successful enough, it is likely that Spike Chunsoft will release the other titles for mobile devices as well.
