Updated July 7, 2021 by Ritwik Mitra: Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc is one of the best murder-mystery titles around, and it was a title that most people thought would be perfect for the Nintendo Switch. However, this obvious announcement felt like it could never come to pass... until Nintendo's showcase at E3 2021 finally brought this dream to fruition. Now, players could immerse themselves in a bizarre world, get embroiled in a web of deceit, and interact with the following students in the series — all on the go!

17 Makoto Naegi - Ultimate Hope

Naegi
  • Height: 5'3"
  • Weight: 52 kg

Makoto is the Ultimate Lucky Student and Hope of the first game. He is the protagonist and the main Danganronpa character that gamers play as throughout the entirety of the game. Makoto is responsible for helping Kyoko solve the murders and ultimately helps the class to escape the school after defeating Junko, who is holding them all hostage.

He is very upbeat compared to some of the other cast members and almost never falls into despair.

16 Sayaka Maizono - Ultimate Pop Sensation

Sayaka
  • Height: 5'5"
  • Weight: 49 kg

Sayaka is the Ultimate Pop Sensation and belongs to an idol group. She was an old classmate of Makoto's and makes quick friends with him when the killing game begins. She cares about her idol group above all else and seems to view the girls in it as her family.

Sadly, the feelings towards her idol group were used as a ploy by Monokuma when he gave out the first killing motives in the game, causing her to suffer from psychological trauma. Out of all Danganronpa V1 characters, she easily has the most tragic story of the lot.

15 Leon Kuwata - Ultimate Baseball Star

Leon
  • Height: 5'9"
  • Weight: 67 kg

Leon is the Ultimate Baseball Star and one of the spunkier members of the class. Strangely enough, Leon doesn't want to play baseball his entire life and would rather have been born the Ultimate Musician. It's even stated in the game that Leon was known for not showing up to practice.

Once the killing game begins, he finds himself targeted by a murderer right away. This leads Leon to kill in self-defense and becomes the first Danganronpa character to be on the end of the sadistic title's very first execution.

14 Kyoko Kirigiri - Ultimate Detective

Kirigiri
  • Height: 5'6"
  • Weight: 48 kg

Kirigiri is the Ultimate Detective who helps solve most of the cases. She is the daughter of Hopes Peak's principal and is extremely good at dealing with the grizzly murder scenes. At the start of the killing game, Kirigiri is suffering from amnesia and can't remember her ultimate talent until much later.

Even so, her personality and ability for quick deductions shine through, helping the class to persevere in class trials. She's easily one of the best Danganronpa 1 characters by a country mile.

13 Byakuya Togami - Ultimate Affluent Prodigy

Byakuya
  • Height: 6'1"
  • Weight: 68 kg

Byakuya is the Ultimate Affluent Prodigy and heir to the Togami company. Because of his status, he is rarely shown showing strong emotion even during the first few murders. Byakuya is reserved and only seems to get close to Toko (not by choice), who constantly follows him around.

This is even more apparent when Genocide Jack reveals herself, and Togami is the only one who seems to be able to control the serial killer.

12 Hifumi Yamada - Ultimate Fanfic Creator

Hifumi
  • Height: 5'7"
  • Weight: 155 kg

Hifumi is a submissive Danganronpa V1 character who ends up practically falling in love with Celestia, and doing her bidding. Hifumi is the Ultimate Fanfic Creator and loves to draw out scenes from his favorite magical girl shows. He is close with his older sister.

Hifumi's kind-hearted nature eventually leads him to be killed by Celestia.

11 Mondo Owada - Ultimate Biker Gang Leader

Mondo
  • Height: 6'2"
  • Weight: 76 kg

Mondo is one of the more rowdy members of the cast and is the Ultimate Biker Gang Leader. Because of his talent, he comes off as more violent and hot-headed than the rest of the cast. Mondo carries a pang of tremendous guilt since he was the reason his older brother was killed in a motorcycle accident.

During the killing game, his feelings toward Chihiro cause him to murder him in a fit of rage after discovering that he was a boy. Chihiro wants to grow stronger, and the pain that Mondo carries complicates things.

10 Toko Kukawa/Genocide Jack - Ultimate Writing Prodigy/Ultimate Murderous Fiend

Genocide Jack
  • Height: 5'4"
  • Weight: 47 kg

Toko is the Ultimate Writing Prodigy and a shy girl who doesn't know how to make friends properly. Even so, she ends up following around Byakuya and falling in love with him. In the killing game, it comes to light that Toko suffers from a split personality and is also the famous serial killer Genocide Jack.

Genocide Jack is known for cutting her opponents up using pairs of scissors, which plays into one of the earlier trials.

9 Celestia Ludenberg - Ultimate Gambler

Celestia
  • Height: 5'5"
  • Weight: 46 kg

Celestia is the Ultimate Gambler and a serial liar who doesn't even use her real name. She doesn't care for much of anyone other than her cat and dreams of living in a palace with attentive servants. She refuses to be honest with her classmates and doesn't get attached to the other characters in Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc.

In the killing game, she is cruel to the men who admire her and murders Hifumi after being tempted with a cash prize.

8 Aoi Asahina - Ultimate Swimming Pro

Aoi
  • Height: 5'3"
  • Weight: 50 kg

Aoi is the Ultimate Swimming Pro and one of the most hopeful Danganronpa characters. Aoi becomes close friends with Sakura and proves herself to also be a skilled fighter. In the killing game, she helps to hold the other classmates up and discover the truth behind their imprisonment.

She is also one of the only classmates that decides to protect Sakura even after she is revealed as the mole.

7 Kiyotaka Ishimaru - Ultimate Hall Monitor

Kiyotaka
  • Height: 5'9"
  • Weight: 66 kg

Kiyotaka is the Ultimate Moral Compass and believes in strictly following any rules he is given. He develops an unfortunate connection with Alter Ego during the killing game and is lead to believe that there is a secret way out of the school leading to his demise.

He is a rival of Mondo at the beginning of the game but quickly grows fond of him after his trial.

6 Sakura Ogami - Ultimate Bodybuilder

Sakura
  • Height: 6'4"
  • Weight: 99 kg

Sakura is the Ultimate Bodybuilder and has often been mistaken as a man. She makes fast friends with Aoi and can be found hanging out with her through most of the game. She is a strong but gentle character in Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc who most of the class loves. Sadly, Sakura is also being forced to work for Junko, but truly develops a love for her classmates.

This eventually leads to Sakura committing suicide in an attempt to absolve herself of her sins.

5 Yasuhiro Hagakure - Ultimate Fortune Teller

Yashuhiro
  • Height: 6'0"
  • Weight: 71 kg

Yasuhiro is the Ultimate Clairvoyant and is arguably the most useless member of the cast. His talent is only right 30% of the time, leaving plenty of room for error. Even so, he is upbeat, although he doesn't handle facing the gruesome murders in the killing game all too well.

Yasuhiro does make it to the end of the games and helps the rest of the class solve the school's mystery.

4 Junko Enoshima - Ultimate Despair

Junko
  • Height: 5'7"
  • Weight: 45 kg

Junko is the mastermind behind the collapse of the world and the killing game itself. She is the Ultimate Fashionista and the Ultimate Despair. She has multiple personalities and enlists the help of her sister Mikuro and Sakura to help her carry out the killing game. She hides behind the scenes for most of the game.

Even when Junko is sent to her death at the end, she is enjoying every second of her execution. She's easily the evilest and most deplorable Danganronpa V1 character.

3 Chihiro Fujisaki - Ultimate Programmer

Fujisaki
  • Height: 4'10"
  • Weight: 41 kg

Chihiro is the Ultimate Programmer and takes on the appearance of a girl. Chihiro was subjected to tons of bullying and pretended to be a girl in order to avoid becoming strong and overcoming it. After receiving his secret, he decides to reveal to Mondo his true gender and ends up getting murdered.

Before Chihoro was killed though, he made the alter-ego computer program that looks and functions just like him. Alter-ego helps the class to make it through the killing game but does end up being destroyed by Monokuma.

2 Mukuro Ikusaba - Ultimate Soilder

Fake Junko
  • Height: 5'7"
  • Weight: 44 kg

Mukuro is the Ultimate Soldier who took the place of Junko during the killing game. She ends up getting executed by spears when she speaks up against Monokuma, which was not part of the plan. Just like Junko, Mikuro loves despair and was completely okay with being killed in this fashion prior to starting the game.

The only one who notices the differences between Junko and Mukuro is Makoto. She is also present in the prequel anime, where she assumed her real form and helps Junko to trigger the end of the world.

1 Monokuma - Remote Control Teddy Bear

Monokuma
  • Height: 2'1"
  • Weight: N/A

Monokuma is a robotic bear that hosts the killing game. He has a sadistic nature and often teases the students, especially when a murder has taken place. He judges the trials and is the one who hands out the executions once a culprit is found.

It is revealed in the killing game that there are multiple Monokumas and that their bodies are actually bombs designed to keep the students in line.
