Memes.

The internet sensation and trend is something everyone has partaken in at one point or another. We are obsessed with these things, which are an extension of our own thoughts and feelings that are put out there in one edited image. It's hilarious to see, as our favorite shows, movies or video games become a portal into our own thoughts and emotions. Having a bad day? You can find a meme of Michael Scott from The Office having a public meltdown and immediately you will go, "Same." It's happened to all of us at one point or another, and yet in the video game world, this happens much more frequently. It's almost as if we communicate more through memes than actual speech. One game franchise that corners the market with memes is Grand Theft Auto.

Yes, the franchise that was built on the notion that you can build a criminal empire and still go bowling is responsible for some of the most hilarious memes. In this article, we are going to explore some of the funniest and most hilarious memes from the Grand Theft Auto franchise that will make us all say, "Same." Whether it's an experience from our actual lives captured in this animated world or a moment from the gaming franchise that happens all too often while we are playing, these memes are an extension of us all, and only the insane moments of Grand Theft Auto could so perfectly bring these feelings to life.

15 Parking Fail

via Meme Center

Parking is never easy in life, but it's even harder in the Grand Theft Auto series. In the series, gamers can drive a multitude of cars, and causing untold damage and destruction to vehicles is something players love to do. The vast number o vehicles and level of destruction is immeasurable. However, this meme hilariously showcases that when we fail to care what happens to our cars in the game, they tend to look pristine. However as soon as we park the car, untold damage seems to follow us until the car is recognizable. This proves that age-old tale that says we can't always get what we want. It doesn't matter if you park it in an empty parking lot near a deserted beach in Los Santos, if you park the care you will end up hitting some sort of object and render the car damaged.

14 Something's Different Here...

via Pinterest

Ah, the moment this meme represents is something we've all been through. How often have serious gamers allowed casual gamers or newbies to play their game? Whether it's a younger sibling or a spouse or an older relative who hears about this game from an older friend and wants to see what the fuss is all about, these occurrences are common and happen a lot. How often has this resulted in some serious cosmetic changes to our games? I can't tell you how many times someone has taken control of the game you spent so long building up and gathering money, weapons and ammo, and in the span of a few minutes, they lose everything you worked so hard to capture. This meme captures that moment perfectly in GTA V, when the player's garage is filled with hot pink cars. One of these things is not like the other....

13 Nothing To See Here...

via GTAForums

Confrontations with the police in Grand Theft Auto are unavoidable. You are a criminal, and eventually, the police will find out you are up to no good. Whether you have just run a red light or caused a car accident, or infiltrated a military base, the police will always be hot on your heels, ready to take you down by any means necessary. However, this hilarious meme is totally me when I'm playing the game. Whenever I accidentally blow up a car or cause a crime to be committed, I always try to walk away casually, blending into the crowd like I'm playing Assassin's Creed or something. I always hope the NPC's are dumb enough to be fooled by my casual demeanor, and about half the time it works. The other half of the time I get shot or have to flee in a stolen vehicle, but I'll take it.

12 Deja Vu

via GTAForums

Have you ever spent weeks, months or even years looking for something? Whether it was a popular video game out of stock in your hometown or a fashionable piece of clothing that made you a part of the cool kids club in school, everyone wants that one thing that stands out in their minds. Yet whenever we do get that item we so desperately want, it seems as if everyone else suddenly gets it too. This happens so often in the Grand Theft Auto games, and this meme captures that perfectly. So many times in the game I will find that rare vehicle that looks amazing and speaks as a status thing to the rest of the game world, and yet as soon as I drive it down to Los Santos I see that there are dozens of these cars suddenly popping up in the game.

11 Trevor Phillips Industries

via TheGamer

One of the craziest and most insane parts of Grand Theft Auto V has to be the character of Trevor Phillips. The drug dealing murder machine known as Trevor often gets into some serious trouble, and many players often need to take breaks from him to retain some semblance of sanity. His antics represent the worst in humanity, and his twisted logic and larger than life personality can be a lot to handle. Whenever you return to play as Trevor however, players often find themselves in the strangest situations. Whether he's surrounded by dead bodies and wearing only his shoes and underwear, or he's in a pink dress on top of a mountain, you never know what you are going to find with Trevor Philips. This meme perfectly captures my feelings whenever I go to play as this man. What in the world is that shark doing there?

10 LSPD Blues

via TheGamer

Run-ins with the Los Santos Police Department are nothing new for players of Grand Theft Auto V. This meme, however, captures perfectly the strange interactions with the police in the game. If I'm ever caught speeding through a light or accidentally hitting a car, the police are always on me, yelling for me to pull over. However, if I ever try to comply, I am usually shot on sight, never arrested. It's like the wild west out there in Los Santos. I feel like a simple ticket or even an arrest would have been sufficient, but the police in Los Santos are definitely a shoot first and ask questions later kind of law enforcement agency. Not surprising considering the corrupt federal government agencies located in Downtown Los Santos. This perfectly illustrates that no one is perfect, and the bad guys can easily look like good guys in the world of GTA.

9 The Mighty Park Bench

via Black Nerd Problems

Driving through Los Santos is a treacherous affair. Cars can crash through almost anything, from street poles and lights to other cars and some buildings. Heck, there are times where players are forced into high-speed chases with the police, and one collision with the side of the freeway ramp can send a car flying clear across town. You can even drive cars off of the top of large skyscrapers in Los Santos, and somehow manage to land on the ground below without the car exploding on impact. However, this meme highlights one of the most frustrating aspects of the game: indestructible benches. For some reason benches and hedges are immovable objects, causing our cars to crash immediately and causing no destruction to the bench or hedges, but totally obliterating our car. How is a bunch of benches or bushes stronger than a metal street pole?

8 Traffic Jam

via YouTube (Stone Cold)

I can't tell you how many times we've been driving down the street and some pedestrian thinks they can outrun our car. They see us coming and yet choose to run across the street anyways, causing us to slam on our brakes. It's like they think they're indestructible or as fast as a moving vehicle, and they have no sense of their surroundings or their own personal safety. In Grand Theft Auto, this isn't a problem. In the game, there are so many times when we're trying to drive and some NPC walks out in front of our car. We are unable to stop and end up running the person over, forcing us to take off before they get up to fight us or the police chase us for a hit and run. This meme perfectly captures the stress of having run over a person in the game.

7 Clueless Pedestrians

via GTAForums

People often don't know how to react to situations. Whether it's staring at a couple as they fight publicly or fumbling with a camera after a tourist asks you to take their picture, people often find themselves unable to cope with the stress of everyday life. This is taken to an extreme in the GTA series, as there are so many moments when the player opens fire at an enemy in a civilian populated area, and instead of taking off in their cars, the NPC gets out of their car and runs, putting themselves in way more danger than if they had just driven off. I mean, who sees a man with a missile launcher and decides, "Hey, I better take the time to stop my car, open the door, get out and run?" It makes no sense whatsoever, and I think this leads to a lot more collateral damage in the game. Such clueless NPCs...

6 Hey There Buddy...

via YouTube (Mike18Rock)

Don't you hate it when people you don't like or who have it out for you call you buddy or some variation of the word? It's such an underhanded way of getting at you. You could walk into a room and spot your worst enemy, and yet they will flash that ridiculous grin of theirs and chat you up like you are the oldest friends in the world. In the GTA series, this happens often. As a criminal, you often run into encounters with the police. It's inevitable, as the police are everywhere and your entire purpose in the game is to commit various crimes. Eventually, you get surrounded by the cops, and yet in the game, while they wait to try to attack you, they'll call out to you in the name of friendship and call you buddy. Don't be fooled by this, as they are just waiting to snipe you down.

5 1, 2, 3 Red Light!

via Meme Center

In the fast-paced and action fueled world of Grand Theft Auto, the story and characters are always moving. Usually, you find yourself in some sort of high-speed chase or pulling off a major heist that leads into a firefight with the police or with other criminals. The action is always moving and doesn't really give an opportunity to slow down. Yet the game is not without it's more annoying aspects, such as the inclusion of traffic lights. In the game, no one has time to wait for the light to change, and yet speeding through lights often causes police chases and car crashes, damaging your car and yourself in the process. This meme perfectly puts into perspective how insignificant the game feature is. While attention to detail is great in modern games and I can appreciate that traffic lights exist in reality, this is a video game and we don't have ten minutes to spare waiting for a light to turn green.

4 Failure To Communicate

via GTAForums

Awkward situations often arise from a failure to understand one another. Whether it's because of an accent, particular phrases associated with a specific set of people, or the pitch level of dialogue, there are so many opportunities to mishear or not understand a person. I think we've all been in situations like this, where someone comes up to us with a question and your heart stops when you realize you can't understand a word they are saying. In this hilarious meme, we see Grand Theft Auto put their spin on this by pointing out how many players turn on subtitles to understand someone's speech in the game, only to read the dialogue and still not have a clue what they are talking about. It's quite ironic if you think about it. If a computer program can't understand what is being said, then how on Earth are we expected to understand them?

3 Store Run

via YouTube (AddictedFanatiC)

Getting to the store for an emergency purchase late at night is something most people can identify with. Whether your child is in need of fresh diapers or you have dinner guests coming and you forgot to get ice, heading to the store late at night is a common problem we all face. This happens a lot in Grand Theft Auto as well. The day to night shift in the game allows players to experience a full day in the game, but like in most games stores close at a certain point in the night. In this meme, we see the eternal struggle to reach the store before it closes for the day, and I was laughing so hard as I identify with this perfectly. This cartoonish expression of that struggle makes my late night shopping trips seem tame in comparison, but I was laughing so much when I saw this.

2 Faulty Advertising

via Memedroid

The load screen for Grand Theft Auto V is constantly showcasing upcoming gaming features and add-ons for the epic game. It's such an innovative feature in the game, showcasing the incredible new items and features to come in the game. However, the things advertised in the loading screen often mean nothing to gamers. Constantly showcasing new vehicles, weapons, and online game modes, fans are still clamoring for some single-player DLC, and so this meme perfectly captures the disappointment players feel when they see a new motorcycle and not an ad for the long-awaited continuation of Michael, Trevor and Franklin's story. We want to see more heists and insane antics these three criminals get up to now that they have finished their work with the FIB and taken care of their enemies. How do they exist with this constant hostility among them? Show us the DLC Rockstar!!!!

1 You Busy Bro?

via GTAForums

Hanging out with people we don't like is a staple of our lives. There are so many times where the people we want to be with are busy, and we're left with the ones that are consistently pestering to be hung with. This happens in the GTA series, when the character Roman Belic asks consistently to go bowling. You always are busy, but if you choose to pick up the phone and call him, the first question you ask him is if he'd like to go bowling. This defeats the whole purpose and puts you in the uncomfortable position on spending time with someone who completely annoys you. I do think it's hilarious just how many minute and pointless tasks one can perform in this high octane action game though, like Yoga and Tennis lessons, not to mention bowling. This meme was hilarious and perfectly capture the moment.
