Wulfgar, Son of Beornegar, is another one of the playable characters in the enigmatic game that is Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance, and he’s a real wildcard. This newly crowned leader of the Tribe of the Elk fills the damage dealer role of the crew, similar to Drizzt.

But, unlike Drizzt, Wulfgar is all about powering through with large swings from the strongest weapons rather than a flurry of stabbing strikes with sharp ones. Unlike other characters, he can only really be played in a few ways within Dark Alliance, either focused entirely on specific Moves and Combos or centered around using his Wrath of the Tempus as often as possible. RELATED: Dungeons & Dragons: Dungeon Master Tips For Creating Memorable NPCsWulfgar is more of a simple “build” than the other three characters in Dark Alliance, it really just depends on what type of damage you want to focus on, what moves you like best, and how much you want to focus on parries and dodges (since he burns through Stamina so quickly).

6 Leveling & Attribute Point Guide

Wulfgar Character Select Screen

As one would expect from a Barbarian/Berserker class, Wulfgar’s two most important attributes are the damage-centered ones, that being Strength and Dexterity. But, the rest of the spread may surprise you:

Rank

Attribute

Reason For Ranking

1

Strength

Wulfgar is the DPS, so he maxes damage output first.

2

Dexterity

DEX also buffs damage output, as well as critical hit chance and crit damage.

3

Intelligence

Many of Wulfgar's best moves have Elemental properties, so this also buffs damage output.

4

Constitution

You sort of have to be alive to deal damage, so survivability is decently important.

5

Wisdom

More survivability, this time to Elemental Damage and Conditions.

6

Charisma

The amount this increases the AoE and Charge Rate of your Ultimate is marginal sadly, even if Wulfgar's Ultimate is important to his builds.

5 Different Ways You Can Play Wulfgar

Wulfgar Berserker State In Intro

Like we said before, as far as playstyles for Wulfgar go, it’s all about damage potential. You can absolutely build him Constitution first and make do with his initial buffed Strength, but at that point, you’re playing more of a bruiser than a Berserker, and you might as well play Bruenor instead.

For Wulfgar, the most popular playstyles either build into one of his moves like Rage Spin, build for Elemental Damage, or fully commit the build to using his Wrath of the Tempus as often as possible.

4 Which Feats To Grab ASAP

Wulfgar Launcher

While there aren’t exactly a “ton” of Feats to unlock in Dark Alliance, each one of them makes a pretty sizeable impact on your experience with the game, and there are absolutely some that should be picked up sooner rather than later. So, here are the best ones to grab in each of Wulfgar's three Feat Trees:

  1. Pack Hunter: Scavenger, Pack Rat, Endurance
  2. The Wolf: Charger, Fury of Tempus, Reckless Abandon
  3. The Elk: Blessing of Tempus, Hardy, Medium Armor Master

3 All Of Wulgar's Best Moves

Wulfgar Rage Spin

Now, Wulfgar is relatively unique compared to the rest of the cast as most of his Moves are worth using. Usually, with the playable characters in this game, you rely on three to four Moves at most and basically ignore the rest, but Wulfgar’s are almost all respectable. That said, there are of course still standouts such as:

  • Magma Summons
  • Rage Spin
  • Shovel Back
  • Gap Closer
  • Elk Stomp

For the most part, people seem to gravitate towards Wulfgar’s Gap Closer and Elk Stomp, as their effects are the most obvious and they're the easiest to use. Magma Summons and Rage Spin are, of course, absurdly powerful, but they aren’t available for purchase until level 15, which you won't reach until running a fair amount of the instanced levels the game offers.

2 His Strongest Active Abilities

Wulfgar Aegis Fang Strike

Every Character in Dark Alliance has four potential Abilities they unlock throughout the course of the game. They start with two already equipped, and two more unlock for purchase at level seven. Surprisingly, quite a few of the level one abilities are kept for the whole experience, but here are Wulfgar’s specifically, ranked in order of best to worst:

  • Endurance of the Elk: Sort of boring since it’s just a buffing ability, but gives a huge overall damage buff to both Wulfgar and his allies with Powerful Strikes and Frenzy, massively increasing the damage output of the group throughout the course of a level.
  • Hammer Throw: The ability Wulfgar starts with, a fantastic ranged opener for fights against elites, and the damage is straight-up insane for something given to players right off the bat.
  • Shockwave: Great AoE damage ability that also knocks monsters down, and inflicts Slowed, giving you even more time to lay into them with normal attacks while they recover. It's a great move for multiplayer, which, given that the game is on Xbox Game Pass, is easy enough to find a group for.
  • Primal Instinct: The other ability Wulfgar starts off with. It’s not at all bad, but it’s an ability that rewards players for getting hurt or is meant for a very specialized Glass Cannon build since it increases your damage based on your missing health.

1 What Set Works Best On Wulfgar?

Loot types

While the Attribute Point distribution is obviously important, in the late game your build is heavily determined by the Set Bonus you’re using, and Wulfgar, like all the other characters, has eight total Armor Sets he can obtain throughout the course of the game. But, out of all eight, only about four are really any “good”, so let’s look at them from best to worst:

  1. Reghed Chief Build: By far Wulfgar’s best Armor Set build, as the rest of his sets are sort of situational with their bonuses. In comparison, the Legendary Meter Generation that this set gives for three and five pieces equipped is greatly useful for keeping his Wrath of the Tempus up as much as possible.
  2. Corsair’s Panache Build: This is the set you’ll want to spec into if you have a teammate that can grant you Precision or Powerful Strikes. Basically, with this set, you’ll be the one in charge of killing all elite enemies, and you’ll basically be able to nuke their health whenever you crit.
  3. Captive of the Abyss Build: This is by far the best build for those who just want to turn their brain off and swing at every enemy in sight. With this Armor Set equipped, you’ll be inflicted with Conditions less, and you’ll be immune to Knockdowns and Stuns when below 30 percent HP thanks to the Unstoppable Buff.
  4. Flag Bearer Build: Basically another version of a build centered around Wulfgar’s Ultimate, but this one procs off Critical Hits rather than just increasing the base generation amount. That said, if you manage to get Ultimate Fragments to drop often, your Wrath of the Tempus will be up more often than it would with the Reghed Chief build since these Fragments fill quite a bit of the bar at once.
