The Ringed City was the last piece of DLC released for Dark Souls 3. Among all of that lovely new content was the addition of a mysterious, forgetful NPC known as Amnesiac Lapp. He seems like a nice bloke who's willing to help you with your quest while he searches for a way to remember his past.

Considering his kind, helpful nature, why wouldn't you want to help him out? Like many other NPCs, Lapp has an entire questline of his own that requires multiple steps to complete. So let's get poor old Lapp's memories back by following this guide.

How To Find Lapp In The Dreg Heap

Dark Souls 3 Lapp in the church

To access The Ringed City DLC, you need to warp to The Dreg Heap bonfire. This can be reached by using a bonfire located right before the final boss fight at the Kiln Of The First Flame. You can also get here by using a bonfire that appears after you defeat Sister Friede in the Ashes Of Ariandel DLC.

Continue on from The Dreg Heap bonfire until you find a dilapidated church with two Lothric Knights praying inside. After dealing with them, leave through the exit on the right and a tower should fall over and smash through the window where the aforementioned knights were just praying.

Head back inside the church and now you can use that fallen tower as a bridge. Make your way across and you'll find Lapp sitting on a rock. Talk to him, exhaust his dialogue, and continue forward.

You should eventually come across the Earthern Peak Ruins bonfire ahead. After resting there, Lapp will appear and tell you about a treasure you can grab in the swamp to the east. The treasure is actually a Titanite Slab, which is definitely something you're going to want. You can find out how to find this Slab — along with the rest of them — with the help of this guide.

In order to progress Lapp's questline, you need to obtain this Titanite Slab. Luckily, if you find this area to be too difficult, Lapp will simply go get it if you die or leave this area three times. Exhaust his dialogue and he'll hand it over.

Once this is done, continue forward to The Demon Prince boss fight. You should be able to summon Lapp to assist you with this fight, which should make it a tad easier.

Finding The Purging Monument

After The Demon Prince is defeated, you should now be within The Ringed City. Make your way forward until you reach the Ringed City Inner Wall bonfire. Lapp will be standing on a balcony outside of this entrance:

Talk to him some more, and he'll mention that he's seeking something known as The Purging Monument to recover his lost memories. Lapp won't be able to find this monument on his own, so it's up to you to find it for him.

Go down the stairs from the Ringed City Inner Wall bonfire and deal with the enemies that stand in your way. Reach the bottom and you'll see a building filled with Hobbled Clerics and Ringed Knights. Get to the bottom of this building and take the exit.

You can now either go up some stairs towards a building with a closed-door or go down the stairs towards a swamp. You're going to head down, which won't be easy as there's a group of Harald Legion Knights patrolling this area along with other annoying enemies. Make your way to the swamp and go to the right where you'll run into a variety of tough enemies.

To reach The Purging Monument, go through this swamp past the various locust enemies until you reach a section with a group of Ringed Knights. Get past them and head towards this doorway toward the right:

Inside you'll see a door you can open which will lead to the Ringed City Streets bonfire.

On the wall, you'll see writing that says "Show Your Humanity." This is a riddle with a rather obtuse solution. Head out the doorway by the bonfire and stand in the swamp. Now use a Young White Branch or the Chameleon spell.

This will turn you into a giant Humanity, which is a nice callback to the first Dark Souls game. Go back to the writing in this form and a ladder will descend from above. Climb it to find an area with Ringed Knights and a Judicator Giant. Find a way down and you'll see a bridge. Go over that and you'll discover this monstrosity:

This is The Purging Monument, which can absolve you of your sins, reverse your hollowing, and resurrect a boss named Judicator Argo so you can fight him again.

Now that you know where the monument is, you can go tell Lapp. At the bottom of the stairs that you first took to get to the swamp, take a left instead of a right this time. You'll find a ladder with some Hobbled Clerics nearby that can hit you with spin attacks.

Climb it, head up the stairs, go over the bridge past more Ringed Knights and some Undead Clerics — who can curse you, so have some purging stones handy and wear the Cursebite Ring if you found it — and you'll reach a building where Lapp should be inside sitting on a chair. Speak to him and tell him the location of The Purging Monument.

Lapp's True Identity

The last encounter you'll have with Lapp is up the path where a dragon named Darkeater Midir has landed. You'll need to dodge his fire to get to the entrance of an area called the Shared Grave. Look to your right and head over the stones.

You'll find a room where Lapp is crouched in a very familiar pose. Speak to him and he'll tell you of another treasure that he's found. All you need to do is look over a ledge with red fabric to find it.

Sure enough, you'll receive a swift kick to your keister that will send you flying over the edge to the platform below. Head back up the stairs to the room where you last saw him. In his place, you'll find the Lapp Armor set, which has pretty decent stats. The Champion's Bones will be there as well if you haven't already defeated the Champion Gravetender in the Ashes Of Ariandel DLC. Along with all of that, you'll also have learned a valuable lesson about ever helping an NPC in the world of Dark Souls.
