Each Dark Souls game includes a mysterious nest with what we assume are crow merchants. Players of the previous games may recognize the names Snuggly the Crow or Dyna and Tillo. Dark Souls III is no different and thus has its own crow merchant. Thankfully, we've created this helpful guide to explain where to find the crow's nest and what you can trade and receive.

Where To Find The Crow's Nest

Finding the unseen crow in Dark Souls III is not difficult. You must first access the locked tower near the Firelink Shrine by purchasing the Tower Key from the Shrine Handmaid for 20,000 souls.

After that, you must ascend the stairs to the second floor of the Shine, exit on the right, and walk toward a large tree. Past the staircase, you will reach the locked tower gate, which has a ladder to the left. Unlock the gate and ascend the spiral stairs. When you finally reach the bridge near the top that connects the two towers, you must turn to face the rooftop to the left and drop down. Near the middle of the rooftop is a large, obvious birds' nest. Walking toward it will activate a squawking voice that calls to you: “You, you. Me, me, pickle pee! Me me, pump-a-rum!”

After this, you will be able to trade in Dark Souls III.

It's also important to note that you can also access the roof by jumping onto the roof via a tipped tree that sits atop the same Firelink Shine, as seen in the video below:

How To Trade

Previous crows used to often ask for items that held specific properties. Snuggly, for example, would always request items that were both warm and soft, while Dyna and Tillo would request items that were either silky or smooth. However, when it comes to trading in Dark Souls III, there doesn't appear to be a common theme.

In order to successfully trade an item, players need to stand in the nest of the crow and select an item from their inventory. Once selected, players must choose “Leave” in order to place the item in the nest. If the item is one that the crow desires, the object will be replaced by one or more new items.

If the crow rejects the trade, you will be notified by a verbal cue, stating: “You, you. No, no. That no pickle pee, that no pump-a-rum."

It is important to note that you should try and pick up the new items right away. If for any reason you die before picking up the new item or items, those objects and what you initially offered will disappear and will reset upon creating a New Game Plus.

To date, the following list is everything that can be traded in the game:

  • Given: Firebomb or Rope Firebomb. Received: A Large Titanite Shard, which Reinforces weapons to +6.
  • Given: Black Firebomb or Rope Black Firebomb. Received: Titanite Chunk, for weapon reinforcement. Reinforces weapons to +9.
  • Given: Prism Stone. Received: Twinkling Titanite, which reinforces weapons steeped in strength to +4.
  • Given: Loretta's Bone Received: Ring of Sacrifice, which prevents soul loss upon death, prevents you becoming hollow upon death even at 15 hollowing or more. It does not prevent hollowing buildup upon death, though, and does not stop you from losing your Ember upon death. It will not take any effect from death by Curse. If you die with the ring equipped, the ring will disappear from your inventory. Dying as a phantom will break the ring, so it is best to unequip it upon being summoned.

Conclusion

Players who wish to complete everything in Dark Souls III might try to trade for every item on the list above, however, it should be noted that there is no overarching reward for doing so, which is a bit of a disappointment. Then again, Dark Souls is nothing if not harsh, so perhaps earning no reward is the most thematically appropriate.

However, if you still wish to trade in Dark Souls III, the crow's nest is the best place to go.
