We’ve seen plenty of great Dark Souls cosplay over the years, but this one is in a league of its own. Courtesy of Damagedcosplays, we bring you: The Black Knight.

Damagedcosplays posted this incredible cosplay on their Instagram after debuting the costume at YuniCon, Austria’s premier anime convention. According to a Reddit post from Damagedcosplays, the whole thing took nine months to build using mostly EVA foam, with the exception of the shield which had a wooden frame.

The level of detail here is undoubtedly the best we’ve ever seen. Look at the filigree on the armor, the red blood on the axe, and the scuff marks on the shield’s edge. Truly superb work from a true master of their craft.

In case you missed it, we've discovered exactly why Dark Souls is as hard a game as it is. Turns out that director Hidetaka Miyazaki is a total masochist. That is, everything that's done to the player in the game is exactly what Miyazaki wants to be done to him. Yes, including the part where you get punched by a giant mushroom.
