FromSoftware's Dark Souls is a series renowned for many aspects, with one of its lesser-renowned aspects being its eerie and fitting soundtrack. Yet, it remains wholly appreciated by a swath of fans, one of which asked Dark Souls series composer Yuka Kitamura if she would be returning for Elden Ring's soundtrack to which she gave an emphatic affirmative.
The inquiry started on Twitter when user Brh00m_97 pleaded with Kitamura to tell them she would be working on Elden Ring's soundtrack. She replied, saying that she would be doing so and added a star emoji for good measure.

Many fans responded to the exchange, joyful that Kitamura would be composing Elden Ring's soundtrack.
While Kitamura did not work on the soundtrack for the original Dark Souls, which had a great soundtrack in and of itself, she worked on FromSoftware's works thereafter. Previously, she worked on the soundtracks for Dark Souls 2, Dark Souls 3, Bloodborne, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
Elden Ring will surely benefit from Kitamura's contribution. As such, it is easy to see why fans had such a positive reaction. Her work has added a lot to the praised atmosphere of the Soulsborne games developed by FromSoftware. The infamous "You Died" jingle, epic boss music, satisfying combat sound effects, and background noise during plain traversal are collectively defining of FromSoftware's works. While each of the games under Kitamura's belt are more often cited for their sheer challenge and hair-pulling boss fights, the games' soundtracks are all integral to the feel and atmosphere of the Soulsborne games.
In terms of gameplay, Elden Ring is likely to follow in its predecessors' steps. The work is a collaboration between FromSoftware and Game of Thrones writer George R.R. Martin, which has drummed up excitement for the game. The game is set to feature an open world in the style of Dark Souls and had been rumored to have a full reveal alongside the Xbox Series X in the Spring.
