Items are a core part of any action RPG title. Obtaining new gear and improving older items is key to surviving in any game, Dark Souls included.

One way of obtaining weapons is to trade for them with certain vendors. A crow atop Firelink Shrine is one such vendor. It calls itself Pickle Pee, Pump-A-Rum but its in-game name is Nestling. Regardless, it is a great NPC for obtaining exotic items and upgrade materials. It only grants one item type per playthrough, so players should trade with it as soon as possible. Here is every item trade players can make with the Nesling crow in Dark Souls 3.

8 Ring of Sacrifice

Perhaps one of the strangest trades players can do with Nestling is giving Loretta's Bone to them.

This item is traditionally tied to Greirat's questline and required to obtain the Blue Tearstone Ring, but players can choose to give this quest item to the crow instead. Players obtain the Ring of Sacrifice for doing so, allowing the player to lose the ring on death instead of their Souls. It's not a bad trade for New Game Plus playthroughs, but this trade is frankly terrible for a character's first playthrough.

7 Titanite Upgrade Materials

Titanite is a core resource in Dark Souls 3, required to upgrade weapons to +5 or +10 based on the weapon type. Players can get a nice surplus of Titanite through Pickle Pee, Pump-A-Rum.

Firebombs or Rope Firebombs grant a Large Titanite Shard while Black Firebombs or Rope variants grant Titanite Chunks. A single Prism Stone or a Large Lether Shield can be traded for a Twinkling Titanite as well. Players who want to upgrade a weapon to +10 can trade a Coiled Sword Fragment to the crow to obtain a Titanite Slab. Trading a Blacksmith Hammer also grants a Titanite Scale, although players that are desperate for the resource can also turn in the Avelyn crossbow to obtain 3 Titanite Scales.

6 Solaire's Armor Set

Solaire is a fan-favorite character amongst the Dark Souls community for his friendly demeanor in a game that is determined to kill the player.

For those that want to praise the sun with his fashion, players can turn in certain items to Nestling to obtain his set. Players will need a Lightning Urn for the helmet, Homeward Bone for the Bracelets, Seed of a Giant Tree for the Leggings, and a Siegbrau for the chest plate. Siegbrau is the only rare item on this list, found by helping Siegward of Catarina on his questline or from two specific encounters in The Ringed City DLC.

5 Sunlight Shield

On top of Solaire's iconic armor set, players can also obtain his shield through the same Nestling NPC. Fortunately, they only need one item to grant players Solaire's shield.

Mendicant's Staff is the item Nestling wants to grant the player for the Sunlight Shield. Man-Serpents that summon enemies can drop this item. Players can farm this item near the Great Belfry in Archdragon Peak. It's worth the grind as it has solid defensive stats and is one of the most unique looking items in the game.

4 Porcine Shield

If looks are all a player is after, however, look no further than the Porcine Shield. This shield takes the appearance of a golden pig and can be obtained by giving an Undead Bone Shard to the crow.

It is debatable if this trade is worth it, as the Porcine Shield is rather lackluster stat-wise. However, its weapon art allows players to shove the golden pig's nose into enemies to stagger them. Shoving enemy invaders is sure to be entertaining, but its viability is not worth trading an Undead Bone Shard for unless the player is focused on being as stylish as possible.

3 Lucatiel's Mask

Many regard Dark Souls 2 as the weakest game in the trilogy. It has its faults, but the game's itemization and NPCs were certainly not a weakness.

One of Dark Souls 2's most interesting NPCs was Lucatiel, an NPC who is suffering from memory loss as she turns hollow. Her iconic mask can be obtained in the third game by giving the Nestling crow a Vertebra Shackle. At least someone remembered her name and carried it on with this helmet.

2 Infusion Gems

Infusing items in Dark Souls 3 is one of the few ways of upgrading one. To infuse an item, players must obtain gems for the respective upgrade they wish to receive.

Pickle Pee, Pump-A-Rump can help with this by giving the player a Lightning, Hollow, or Blessed Gem. A Lightning Gem is obtained after turning in a Xanthous Crown that can be obtained after defeating the Yellowfinger Heysel invading NPC in the Crucifixion Woods. For the Blessed Gem, players must trade a Moaning Shield that belongs to Eygon of Carim. Finally. the Hollow Gem is obtained by giving the Nestling the Eleonora weapon.

1 Carvings

Since Dark Souls 3 doesn't support text or voice chat, communicating with other players can be a challenge in of itself. Thankfully, there are carvings to make communicating during invasions easier.

Using a carving will cause it to project a short statement based on the type of carving dropped. The Very Good Carving is granted from a Divine Blessing, the Thank You Carving from a Hidden Blessing, Hello Carving from an Alluring Sk ull, Help Me Carving from any Sacred Chime, and I'm Sorry Carving comes from a Shriving Stone.
