Video game culture has evolved over time and has gotten more inclusive, which is always a positive sign of growth. Much like anything popular these days, video games are also subject to memes, which is the current gold standard for pop culture communication. It can't be helped, certain video game moments are simply hard to forget.

Some of them are just downright hilarious while others, like Dark Souls' "Praise the Sun" mantra illustrates one of the game's redeeming qualities and breakthrough scenarios. Other video games from several generations past also have moments like these. One need not look far in order to encounter memes about these 10 moments from our favorite video games.

10 PRAISE THE SUN

In a game world where most NPCs treat the players like a lunatic and all enemies treat them like dish rags, one NPC names Solaire of Astora who genuinely just wants to help is bound to be unforgettable. Sure enough, players commemorated Solaire's radiance and helpfulness by doing as he does.

His favorite pose and gesture, 'Praise the Sun' has been a rallying call for jolly cooperation ever since the first Dark Souls and has become symbolic for brotherhood in the face of hopelessness. If only everyone can be so grossly incandescent as Solaire.

9 LEEROY JENKINS!

Some blunders are simply too gut-busting to not be immortalized. Perhaps the most popular failure ever in video games came in the form of an awkward raid in World of Warcraft where a player named Leeroy Jenkins rushed in while his group was huddling and got everyone killed.

Since then, Leeroy Jenkins has become the patron saint of any character or gamer who rushes in headfirst and asks questions later. Shouting "Leeroy Jenkins!" is also the gaming culture equivalent of "YOLO!" or "Jesus take the wheel," keep that in mind.

8 PRESS 'F' TO PAY RESPECTS

It's not hard to stumble upon forum threads or YouTube comments with a chain of "F" replies whenever a sad or embarrassing subject comes up. This came all the way back from 2014's Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare where the whole supposedly dramatic scene of a military funeral was cheapened with a quick-time even option "Press F (or X) to pay respects."

Even non-gamer celebrities like Conan O'Brien noticed just how ridiculous the whole setup was in his Clueless Gamer series. It's the pinnacle of quick-time events trivializing gameplay and emotional storytelling elements.

7 WASTED

As expected, Grand Theft Auto is here. From the increasingly popular "Here we go again" from CJ to Big Smoke's quotes, the game never runs out of meme-able material. However, the most persistent and widely known GTA moment is when players die.

Afterward, they'll be met with a "Wasted" screen before waking up at a nearby hospital. This has become a video editor's wet dream for making fun of domestic disasters caught on video, especially people who risk too much.

6 FINISH HIM!

Some video game franchises have held on to certain catchphrases for so long, they have become a cultural standard. Case in point is Mortal Kombat's fatality prompts, usually a deeply-voiced "Finish Him!"

Such a brutally callous quote has made its way into tons of video edits similar to the "Wasted" camera edit memes for GTA. It's also quite prevalent in text version as an affirmation to a savage reply or comeback in a comment thread or goading others into doing something. It fits in quite nicely.

5 NANOMACHINES, SON

Here's one from the Metal Gear franchise. It's a series that dabbles in pseudo-science nonsense and military fetishism. This was best displayed in Metal Gear Rising: Reveangeance during the boss fight with Senator Armstrong where his body suddenly becomes immune to Raiden's physical attacks. His explanation? Nanomachines, son!

It's become the iconic response to anything that's neither explained well nor makes any sense apart from being necessary for the plot. A character suddenly becomes evil? Nanomachines. Someone got resurrected inexplicably? Nanomachines. You died? Nanomachines. The list goes on, Nanomachines fixes everything.

4 ANOTHER SETTLEMENT NEEDS OUR HELP

No one wants to hear that quote after barraged with it relentlessly in Fallout 4. Courtesy of the beloved Minuteman Preston Garvey, this call-to-action is Bethesda at its finest in quest-crafting, introducing repetitive quests and the most repetitive way of getting the players to attend to them.

Don't be surprised when you see fake social media accounts of Preston Garvey asking what you're doing there when you should be in a settlement that needs your help. While it's true that plenty of video games are guilty of this level of laziness, Fallout 4 is one of the few that shamelessly flaunt it. Now get to that settlement!

3 HEY YOU, YOU'RE FINALLY AWAKE

While the classic "Arrow in the knee" quote is more popular, it's not rubbed in players' faces, unlike that embarrassingly clumsy Skyrim intro where a blonde Stormcloak chad welcomes the players to the coldest region in Tamriel in a proper manner.

Everyone who has played video games this decade ought to know that quote by now. Memes about it are also countless and creative especially since it's a typical storytelling trope where the hero wakes up on the way to an adventure. If anything, it's a better way to say 'good morning.'

2 HALF-LIFE 3...

Thanks to game developer Valve's loyal fans, every game developer right now is reminded to never skip on the third title of a video game series. Otherwise, they'll turn any seemingly meaningless numerical detail in any video into a sign that the elusive Half-Life 3 has been confirmed.

This can be any moment from the latest Half-Life: Alyx to other video games that have no business being involved with Valve. Three strips of bacon in the third entry of a cooking video game surely mean Half-Life 3 is coming anytime soon, right? Gotta watch out for those signs.

1 ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US

Finally, we have here possibly the oldest meme from a video game, namely the arcade shooter Zero Wing. That quote was supposed to be a huge threatening remark to the players except the villains are not native English speakers so that's what happened.

It became one of the longest-running jokes in video game culture and even made its way in film jokes or anything remotely representing a threat that turned out to be funnier than it should be. The rest, as they say, is history.
