Get ready, Slayers, as Phoenix Labs officially launches the popular ARPG Dauntless. Patch 1.0 marks the formal entrance of the game following years of early access and beta versions, with 15 million players actively fighting Behemoths to keep the world safe, it is an exciting time to be playing the game.

With the switch over to a formal launch, players are now ready to experience what is described to be that largest seasonal expansion to date with “Aether Unbound”. This brings a highly anticipated all-new weapon, Behemoth, Hunt Pass, and a reword to the Bounty system. Dauntless is one of the newer games as well to feature cross play between the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, and soon, that will also extend to Nintendo Switch users.

The formal launch of Dauntless is an exciting time for existing and new players, as Phoenix Labs has worked hard over the years and listened to constant feedback from the community to form the game we see today. The commitment to a long-term road map is a large part of the developer’s plan for the game and can be seen in detail here.

In a recent press release, Phoenix Labs CEO and Co-Founder Jesse Houston described the launch of the game with great passion, stating,

“Today is the celebration and culmination of the past five years of the development of Dauntless, and the amazing community of Slayers that have supported the game, provided feedback and ultimately helped us craft the experience of the Shattered Isles. As we cross the 1.0 milestone and 15 million players, we as a studio could not be more excited to set our sights on the future of Dauntless.”

What Lies Ahead?

“Aether Unbound” looks to add a new combo-dependent weapon for Slayers to use against their Behemoth foes with the aether strikers. Speed and close-range techniques embody the spirit of the weapons and should provide an interesting shift in how players fight. A new Dire Behemoth, Tempestborne Stormclaw, will also shake things up.

Finally, the revamp to the Bounty system will help remove some of the monotony associated with questing. Before the update, players often received random quest conditions that made the game more of a chore than a fun adventure. Now players will not be tied to quests that force the use of a certain weapon. Instead, players will still access their Quests tab, but now Bounty Cards and Bounty Tokens can be spent to draw three random Bounty Cards. Choosing one of these will add it to the list of active bounties, giving players a sense of control over what how they play.

Now is a great time to get into the game, and with the implementation of cross play, one can expect there to be a vibrant, involved community for years to come as the player base is not fragmented.
