Marvel’s Drax, Dave Bautista, revealed he’s obsessed with Bane from DC Comics and even held a special meeting with Warner Bros. about the villain, who has to be played by him.

The latest Bane’s appearance was almost ten years ago in The Dark Knight Rises, where this iconic supervillain was played by wheezing and over-muscled Tom Hardy. Back then, Dave Bautista only started his movie career, appearing in low-budget action films like House of the Rising Sun and The Scorpion King 3. It is only several years later Bautista became one of MCU’s most funny characters, as well as starred in Blade Runner 2049 and Spectre.

During the Justice Con event, the former wrestler revealed his pitch attempt, Collider reported. Dave Bautista admitted “it’s no secret he wants to play Bane so bad.” The actor said he had an appointment with DC and WB executives, where he just walked in the door and said, “I want to play Bane.” Such a bold move from the rising star surprised the studio, as there were no projects with Bane’s involvement on the table. Apparently, Bautista wasn’t bothered by it, as he continued to insist “he’s playing him.”

As of now, Bane is not expected to appear in any upcoming films, so the door is still open for Bautista. It is possible Bautista could play the villain in Matt Reeves’s Batman sequels, but it’s too early to talk about that. The original film starring Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne won’t be released until March 2022.

Previously, Bautista wanted to appear in James Gunn’s Suicide Squad based on DC comics. Despite the actor and director working together on both Guardians of the Galaxy films, Bautista did not find any suitable role in the project.

Bautista’s next movie is Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead, coming to Netflix on May 21. In addition, Bautista will return as Drax sometime in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, not to mention he portrayed Glossu “Beast” Rabban in the upcoming Dune, expected to premiere on October 1.
