Some may be willing to call Days Gone a dead game, but that won't stop it from rising again with New Game Plus. The team behind the game announced that New Game Plus is coming next week, along with new difficulty modes. The idea seems to be to give the game more replayability by encouraging players to go for those missed trophies and maybe even get the platinum. Best of all, the new content is totally free.

The New Game Plus announcement was made by Days Gone dev Bend Studio on the PlayStation Blog. It will be ready for download on September 13th. As the name implies, New Game Plus will allow you to start a new game while keeping all of your current weapons, bike upgrades, NERO boosters, skills, recipes, encampment trust and credits, collectibles, and trophy progress. Aside from giving you a stronger start, it also lets you work on any trophies you might have missed without starting from scratch.

Along with the New Game Plus update will come two more difficulty modes: Hard II and Survival II. They seem made for New Game Plus and all of the advantages it will bring. Of course, all three of these new ways to play will come with their own brand new trophies. Bend Studio also teased a trophy related to a new weapon, one that comes "from an agent that only operates in the shadows."

The last little bit of news is that the Days Gone soundtrack will be getting a special vinyl release, much like Red Dead Redemption 2. Pre-orders will go live when the New Game Plus update hits.

Days Gone sits in an interesting place among its fellow PlayStation 4 exclusives. Games like the masterful God of War and expansive Marvel's Spider-Man have given PlayStation a reputation of being a haven for single-player experiences. Footage from E3 and similar events gave gamers the hope that Days Gone would bring that PlayStation magic to zombie games. The end result, unfortunately, was plagued with technical issues and a so-so story. Months, and a lot of upkeep later, brings us this New Game Plus update. Perhaps there's life in this game yet.
