Zombie survival shooter, DayZ, is officially coming out of Xbox game preview on March 27 and becoming a full release.
Inside Xbox made the announcement during a livestream on YouTube. You can find it around the 1.08 mark. It was followed by the official trailer, which can be viewed below.
During the Xbox Inside segment, a spokesperson for Bohemia Interactive discusses how active the DayZ community has been over the last few months while the game has been in preview. He also talks about how the title has improved, thanks to fan feedback.
While many aspects of DayZ, including the control scheme, have already been changed, there are still more changes to come. Players have been told to expect an update on March 27, which will also take the game out of preview mode.
Though specific changes in the update were not discussed, we have been told that this patch doesn’t mean the end for game improvements. Bohemia promises “a full year of updates ahead of us.” These are set to include new content, in the form of weapons and vehicles, as well as more in-depth core gameplay features.
When describing DayZ, Bohemia says that the game offers “friendship, emotions, and roleplaying stories you won’t experience anywhere else.”
The game places players in a fictional post-Soviet Republic country called Chernarus, in which a mysterious plague has turned most of the population into zombies. You must find food, water, weapons, and other supplies in order to stay alive and survive the outbreak. Teaming up with other survivors can also help you take down any infected inhabitants you encounter.
DayZ began life as an ARMA 2 mod of the same name before its creator, Dean Hall, joined Bohemia to work on a standalone version. It spent five years in early access for the PC, before finally getting a full release in December of 2018.
Despite being in early access until very recently, DayZ has already won a string of awards. These include IGN’s People’s Choice Award in 2013, as well as Best Indie Game and Best Original game in the 2014 Golden Joystick Awards.
DayZ will be officially launched for Xbox One on March 27 and is currently available for Microsoft Windows. A release date for the PlayStation 4 version, which is said to be in development, has not yet been confirmed.
