DC Universe Online – an aging MMO first launched in 2011 – is still alive and well on PS4, with a PS5 releasing happening later this year. Before that, however, DCUO is getting a massive new expansion on April 15 that draws inspiration from DC's Flashpoint storyline. World of Flashpoint is scheduled to arrive as a free update on both PlayStation and PC later this month.

"The next episode for DC Universe Online is World of Flashpoint, launching April 15, 2021," said Ted Stone, senior community manager at Dimensional Ink Games. "Explore events surrounding one of the most legendary DC storylines, Flashpoint, and its time-twisted versions of your favorite DC characters. It will be up to you and your allies to set the timeline right!"

The expansion sees the addition of Flashpoint Batman, Emperor Aquaman, Flashpoint Wonder Woman, and several other unannounced characters. You'll also have the chance to earn "villainous gear based on Heat Wave, a boss you'll fight in the episode, and Doomsday, who you'll face in the open world."

World of Flashpoint is heavily influenced by events in the comics, although these, in particular, were a big source of inspiration:

  • Flashpoint #1 – #5
  • Flashpoint: Batman – Knight of Vengeance #1 – #3
  • Flashpoint: Wonder Woman and the Furies #1 – #3

Stone mentioned World of Flashpoint is DC Universe Online's 40th episode – with the team having no plans to stop any time soon.

The new episode requires you to be at least level 15 before joining in on the Flashpoint fun, although it sounds like you can easily reach that level in a weekend of playing. If you're looking to start playing the new content with everyone else, you can reach the required level by the time in drop on April 15.

World of Flashpoint arrives later this month, with a PS5 update slated for sometime in 2021. If watching the lengthy Snyder Cut has you itching for some DC video game action, this might be the cheapest way to get your superhero fix.
