Behavior Interactive will soon be beefing up The Trickster, the newest Killer in Dead by Daylight. Bugfix Patch 4.6.1 will buff him in several ways, mostly relating to movement speed, special ability animation, and better control of his knives.

The first biggest change relates directly to movement speed while throwing knives. Currently his movement speed drops to 2.68m/s, making him slower than Survivors and easily outmaneuvered during a chase. For a Killer like The Huntress, this is not as big of a deal because each of her hits result in a complete change in health state, whereas The Trickster needs multiple hits to accomplish the same goal. Once the patch goes live, his movement speed will be buffed from 2.68 m/s to 3.68 m/s while throwing knives.

Not only will you be able to move more quickly at a crucial point in the match, the animation wind up time to ready your knives will also be decreased, from 0.5 to 0.35 seconds, and there will be an increased wind down grace period from 1 to 1.25 seconds. Together, both the changes to movement speed and his power will help give you more control over the Killer’s power, which will be particularly useful in maps with tight corners, or anywhere where a Survivor can quickly get to cover and out of throwing line of sight.

In addition, and perhaps most importantly for some players, the spread on thrown knives is being removed, and recoil will be greatly decreased. This has been a point of contention among players since The Trickster launched because other Killers that use projectiles have always been rewarded for practice towards improving their accuracy. Since launch, the Trickster has felt a bit too random, with a shot that looks as though it were perfectly lined up but would then miss.

Together, all these changes should make The Trickster a force to be reckoned with, and you can expect far more lethal opponents from now on if facing him. There is one other major change to mention, which is that the Main Event will see its movement speed increased to 3.86 m/s, which is also a buff, but still rather lacking.

Unfortunately, the ability still feels rather lacklustre because players have such a narrow window to activate their power. Often it feels like the Main Event comes at the worst possible time, like right after downing and wanting to hook a Survivor, or simply with no viable targets nearby. The Shape, Ghost Face, and The Oni feature incredible power spikes once they choose to activate their abilities, but unlike The Trickster, they are mostly in control of when that happens.

On the other hand, would The Trickster simply be too powerful of a Killer if this were how the Main Event were instead designed? It is hard to say, but for now it is clear that these upcoming changes will only help you feel more in control in your hunt to sacrifice Survivors. There is no set date yet for the release of this patch, but you should expect it to drop in the near future.
