It is no exaggeration to say that Behavior Interactive has been on a roll with Dead by Daylight. They are always working hard to make positive changes to the gameplay for both Survivor and Killer, adding iconic horror franchises to their own unique lore, and now with a great-looking update to our favorite chainsaw-swinging killers, the Cannibal and Hillbilly.

Core Changes To The Cannibal

Patch 4.1.0 is making changes to Leatherface/ the Cannibal’s base kit, starting with the way in which the chainsaw activates. Now the function is identical to the Hillbilly’s instead of needing to be fully charges and released. Cannibal users can all attest to the frustration of chasing a survivor, charging up the chainsaw, but letting go a millisecond too early and cancelling the entire effect, allowing the player to continue the chase rather than going down into the dying state.

Next, the Chainsaw will now have three charges by default. While using the Chainsaw Sweep, a single charge will be consumed, and pressing the power button while sweeping will refresh it and use a second charge for two more seconds. Each charge also extends the duration of both the tantrum and missed attack cooldown, adding greater risk and reward with this change. These charges will automatically refill at a rate of one every few seconds.

Lastly, and perhaps most important, is that the maximum movement speed while using his power has been increased from 5/06 m/s to 5.25 m/s, an effective change of 5% that will help close the distance against survivors, making it easier to down them in a chase, or catch them before they can vault through a window. Overall, these changes are all so exciting to see and will make the character even more enjoyable to play than he already is.

Cannibal Addons And Perk Updates

Since Leatherface was added to the game almost three years ago, it was high time to review his add-ons to bring them into line with those of more recent killers. This now means that there are four common, five uncommon, five rare, four very rare, and two ultra rare add-ons to find in the Blood Web. Many have been adjusted to reflect the new mechanics of the character, such as charge number and cooldown duration.

The last change to Leatherface are two perks have also been updated. Franklin’s Demise now reads, “Your vicious attacks make the Survivors drop their item on impact. The lost item will be consumed by the Entity after 120/100/90 seconds if it is not picked up before the timer runs out. Reveal the aura of items on the ground within 32/32/32 meters in a white aura. The aura of items fade to red until they are consumed by the Entity.”

While Knock Out now reads, “Survivors put into the dying state by your basic attacks are not revealed to other Survivors when they are standing outside of a 32/24/16 meter range. Survivors put into the dying state by your basic attacks crawl 50/50/50% slower for 15/15/15 seconds. During this time, Survivors are affected by the Blindness status effect.”

The Hillbilly Adds Resource Management

Via: thegamer.com

Unlike the Cannibal, the Hillbilly was in a good spot and the announcement for changes has come as a bit of a surprise. The developers confirm that they too believe that Hillbilly is generally fine in regard to his performance, but would like to see a small change that will require a little more skill to use the killer effectively.

To do this, nothing about his core gameplay is changing, and players will still be able to traverse, feather, curve, and so on all around the map at top speeds. However, now the chainsaw has a new Overheat mechanic that needs to be considered. By revving the chainsaw, heat will accumulate as shown in the lower left corner of the screen and also on the chainsaw itself.

Heat will generate rather quickly is walking or standing still, and far slower when sprinting across the map. When not revving the chainsaw, the heat will dissipate over time. This will continue to encourage the fast movement of the killer across maps but will demand precision and careful timing to use when near a survivor. This additional layer of resource management should help push the Hillbilly towards a specific style of play, and time will tell how effective the change is to this goal.

Hillbilly Addons And Perk Updates

Similar to the Cannibal, the Hillbilly has also has his add-ons streamlined in number and rarity to correspond with other killers. The changes made to some of the add-ons mainly work to offset the new Overheat mechanic, but there are some interesting other changes as well. Lopro Chains, an ultra rare add-on, will allow a Chainsaw Sprint to continue after breaking a pallet but will only do a single health state of damage to survivors hit by the power. It may not be to everyone’s taste, but it does invite for diverse builds and play styles of older killers.

Lastly, two perks have also been updated. Lightborn now reads, “Unlike other beasts of The Fog, you have adapted to light. You are immune to blindness caused by flashlights and firecrackers. Survivors that attempt blinding you have their aura revealed for 6/8/10 seconds.” This is an interesting change, and worthwhile if loading into a lobby that appears to be a four-person Survive With Friends group with everyone holding a flashlight to completely nullify the effect of their coordination, but this is highly situational.

Tinkerer now reads, “When a Generator is repaired to 70% repair progress, it triggers a loud noise notification and you are granted the Undetectable status effect for 12/14/16 seconds.” This too is a change that will be interesting to try out, though still not likely good enough to be a meta pick among most killers.

This update looks outstanding, and we cannot wait to see how players use both killers with their new changes. Best of luck to everyone, we will see you all in the fog!
