Dead By Daylight is filled with a variety of currency types that can be hard to track and make sense of. Usually, most games that have in-game currency, tend to stick to a generally established formula: you either have the regular currency, obtainable by playing the game, or the premium currency available for purchase through microtransactions. In free-to-play games, the former is especially hard to come around.

The formula gets a little more complex in Dead By Daylight. This engaging hide and seek horror title has four distinct types of currency, and even reaches six if you count the special yearly events that come with their own token system.

5 Auric Cells

The Auric Cell currency

If you want to purchase a new playable character or customization items, you will need to get some Auric Cells. These are pretty similar to Fortnite's V-Bucks. You purchase Auric Cells through microtransactions in the game's store — the more money you spend, the more cells you get.

To unlock a new killer or survivor main character, you can also purchase the game's DLC packs rather than Auric Cells. If you plan to get every single character, directly purchasing DLCs will save you money in the long run. It's a good idea to allocate any Auric Cells for cosmetics, if you care about personalization. In any other case, you really don't need to worry about Auric Cells.

4 Bloodpoints

The Bloodpoints currency

This is the currency that deserves most of your attention, especially when you first start playing the game. Becoming a proficient survivor, or ruthless killer, requires Bloodpoints on end. After selecting any character, you can find their respective Bloodweb in the game's menus.

This is where your progression happens. You can use Bloodpoints to unlock new skills, items, or offerings that boost your chances to win a match. To make your life easier, prioritize skill unlocks since they are permanent. The Bloodweb won't allow you to purchase everything it offers — some nodes will become unavailable after purchasing others.

Obtaining Bloodpoints is easy, all you need to do is play the game. The better your results, the more points you will obtain. You should keep in mind that Bloodpoints are not specifically tied to any one character. This means you can play as your favorite and use points to level up other survivors or killers.

3 Iridescent Shards

This currency begins to make things a little convoluted. You obtain Iridescent Shards by levelling up you account, which is not the same as levelling up a character. To level up your account, you need to earn experience points by completing Trials. On the mobile version of the game, you may also obtain Iridescent Shards by fulfilling Daily and Weekly Rituals.

Like Auric Cells, you can use Iridescent Shards to unlock characters and customization items. However, you should not use shards for either purpose, unless you absolutely want to unlock a specific unlicensed killer or survivor — so you can't use shards to get Freddy Krueger or Steve Harrington, for example. Instead, you should invest your shards in teachable perks available for purchase in the Shrine Of Secrets.

Some perks, or skills, appear in a character's Bloodweb only after levelling them up to rank 30, 35, and 40. It takes quite a while to get there. Alternatively, you can check the rotation in the Shrine Of Secrets, which refreshes every Wednesday. There you will find teachable perks in exchange for Iridescent Shards. If you are after some invaluable skills, like Self-Care or Sprint Burst, you should definitely invest your shards in the shrine. Unlocking a teachable skill early will undoubtedly aid you in racking up wins with ease.

2 Rift Fragments

Rift Fragments were added in one of Dead By Daylight's later patches, after the other currencies in the game were already well established. You can use Rift Fragments exclusively in The Rift, which is kind of like Dead By Daylight's imitation of a battle pass. Practically, every currency has its own dedicated in-game store. These fragments are most similar to shards, since they are obtained by completing challenges or by gaining experience points.

Rift Fragments advance your tier in The Rift. The more tiers you are able to get through, the more cosmetic rewards and charms you will reap. So make good use of the strongest killer to climb these tiers fast. Depending on when you play, The Rift will be under the influence of a given Tome. This basically means that different Tomes account for different battle pass seasons, and each stays around for a limited time.

1 Gold Coins And Putrid Serums

After you graduate with a degree in Dead By Daylight's economics, you will understand what every currency in the game is for. But there are more! Gold Coins and Putrid Serums are available only for a limited during special events. They each account for an alternative type of currency to be spent in the game's store, and redeem special cosmetic items.

Gold Coins can be obtained during the game's Lunar New Year event, and Putrid Serums during the Blight Halloween Event. Both take place once a year, so it's a good idea to play the game on these special occasions to unlock some free customization items. Besides, it's always fun to revisit Dead By Daylight's thrilling maps, filled with the potential to make your adrenaline skyrocket.
