Dead Island fans have pointed out that the sequel's title no longer makes any sense, as it takes place in L.A., a city, and not an island.
One of the biggest announcements to come from Gamescom Opening Night Live was the return of Dead Island 2, a game that was originally revealed nearly a decade ago. Although the reception to the reveal has largely been positive, there's one thing wrong with the Dead Island 2 reveal - the title no longer makes any sense at all.
During the Gamescom Opening Night Live reveal, the two Dead Island 2 trailers that were shown off proudly displayed the pun "Welcome to HELL.A.", clearly showing off that the game takes place in Los Angeles. Further interviews revealed that Dead Island 2 will also feature San Francisco and an "undisclosed location in California".
I hope I don't have to point this out, but Los Angeles, San Francisco, and whatever undisclosed location comes out of California, aren't islands, they're cities, making the title of "Dead Island 2" both completely untrue and a little bit confusing. Following Dead Island 2's reveal, plenty of fans of the series took to social media to complain about the fact that the title no longer makes any sense at all.
For those who don't remember, the original Dead Island took place in Banoi, a tropical resort and, more importantly, an island. The sequel, Dead Island: Riptide, also took place on an island, as did Escape Dead Island, a spin-off title. Even if the island setting became a little less pronounced as the series progressed, it has always lived up to its name and taken place on an island.
Granted, this is a problem that we've known about ever since Dead Island 2 was originally revealed at E3 2014, as that version of the game also took place in California and thereby didn't have a logical name. None of the Dead Island fans seem too annoyed about the fact that it takes place in a bunch of cities, but it is quite a funny situation.
