Dead Island 2 has been in development for eight years and has had multiple different studios working on it over that time, but the game could be close to finally launching according to insider Tom Henderson.
First reported by VGC, Henderson claimed in a recent video uploaded to YouTube that Dead Island 2 is still in active development and is actually in "a decent state." He then follows that up by claiming that Dead Island 2 could be re-revealed pretty soon, accompanied by "some kind of gameplay trailer."
Henderson goes on to claim that Dead Island 2 will also be getting a release date at some point during Q4 2022, although this could be pushed back into 2023 if problems with development arise. There have also been rumors circulating that Dead Island 2 will completely skip PS4 and Xbox One, with the developers choosing to focus on next-gen consoles instead.
He also reveals some potential plot points in Dead Island 2, claiming that players will start out on an airliner before its overrun by zombies and crashes into Hollywood, Los Angeles, one of three locations that will be included in the game. The other location will allegedly be San Francisco while the third location is currently unknown.
While Henderson doesn't name any of his sources, he is considered one of the more reliable industry insiders out there, revealing key information about the Battlefield and Call of Duty franchises. It's still safe to take all of this info with a pinch of salt, but Henderson is definitely more credible than other insiders out there.
Those that have been following Dead Island 2 ever since it was announced back in 2014 will know that development has changed hands on multiple occasions. The game was first announced with Yager Studios at the helm before it was taken off the project and replaced by Sumo Digital. It was also then removed and replaced by current developers Dambuster Studios.
Development during that period has undoubtedly been rough, but it looks like Dead Island 2 could finally be on its way out the door. Fingers crossed anyway.
