A Dead Space remake has been announced at EA Play and it's being developed by EA Motive.

Dead Space was announced as the main surprise during EA Play, although its existence has been rumoured for some time. The reveal confirmed that it is being made on the Frostbite engine and is exclusive to PS5, Xbox Series, and PC.

The trailer shown for the project was short but confirmed that the game is a remake of the original, with the same main character, enemies and location. The footage shown featured a necromorph aboard the USG Ishimura before revealing Isaac Clarke stood behind a workbench. No official release date or window was given during the trailer, and the small glimpse at gameplay didn't give too much of a hint at how far along the remake is.

In a Tweet announcing the game, EA said, "A classic rebuilt", which seemed to confirm that the game is a remake of the original, rather than the reboot that has been rumoured over the past few months. Those rumours did correctly predict that EA Motive, the team behind Star Wars Squadrons, is behind the project.

Following the trailer, GameBeat's Jeff Grubb reported that it was a "remake/reboot" and that it would "feature elements from multiple games". A press release from EA says that the remake will let fans, "experience an improved story, characters, gameplay mechanics and more", which seems to confirm that it will take features from several Dead Space titles.

Rumours of a Dead Space reboot have been circulating the internet for a couple of months now. Its existence was first leaked back in June, when it was suggested that EA was working on a revival of a long-dead IP. Those rumours then gained more traction in the following weeks which went further to say that IP was indeed Dead Space, and that it was inspired by Capcom's own efforts in remaking Resident Evil. Most of those rumours assumed that the game was a reboot, but it looks like it's more of a remake.
