Deadly Premonition 2, like the first game, leaves a lot unanswered. There are a few reasons why this could be so. Are the things left up in the air being set up for a sequel? Were the questions in these entries left ambiguous to cause fan discussion?

Or, more likely, were these things just plot holes? Even though it took ten years to make a sequel, much of this Switch exclusive feels rushed, which may point toward plot holes. Regardless of the reasons, let’s go through the ten biggest questions. Yes, there are heavy spoilers.

10 York’s Return

How does York come back? He pretty much dies in the first game, giving Zach his body back. It was a sad moment, but one that felt right. Then, he comes back again to sacrifice himself once more.

Was the contract that powerful? He says this was the last time, but he is talking to Zach again online at the end so don’t bet on York not returning for a third game in some capacity.

9 Teasing Sequels

On the subject of York talking to Zach on his computer, is Swery teasing a sequel or DLC already? Zach opens up a window with a bunch of what are assumed to be past case files. One is for Le Carré, one is for Greenvale, and there are several others. Will players ever get to play a game set in Brainerd, Minnesota as just one example? York does mention Duluth in a side conversation in the game. Will it also be a Switch exclusive?

8 My Fairy

“Isn’t that right, my fairy?” That’s a line Zach mumbles to himself in front of the agents in his apartment from time to time. It turns out the fairy is Emily. Saying her name makes her go away apparently, but then she is back in the end? Is Emily an angel now, but smaller in fairy form? Can she talk? The afterlife in general makes little to no sense in Deadly Premonition.

7 Forrest Kaysen’s Return

This is half answered from a question left hanging at the end of Deadly Premonition. Kaysen “dies” but one could assume he was just trapped in his doll form that Willie is seen holding in the very last scene of the game. That could explain him being alive, but how? How did he come out of the doll? What exactly is he? And most importantly, is he trapped in the Red dimension now? Like York, he will probably return again.

6 Danny’s Sacrifice

Why does PJ have an alligator eat Danny’s arm? This was seemingly thrown in just to fool the audience to make them think PJ was the big boss. It was a red herring, or more like a red alligator. Sacrificing something would make one assume this was a magical ritual like so many other ritual like things in the game. In terms of a mislead it was clever, but thinking back on it now it also doesn’t make much sense.

5 Who Is Houngan?

One theory is that the magical voodoo like figure is Death itself. Fans have linked him to Anna Graham from the first game. At one point her body on the tree has a white shake wrapped around it.

Who also has a white snake? Houngan. It could be a coincidence, but it might have also been a hint in this game to show he is some sort of Death dealer, or god of some sort. Also, what’s up with him bowling at the end?

4 What’s Going On With The Wildlife?

It’s mentioned early on in Deadly Premonition 2 that the animals around Le Carré are a bit crazy. Squirrels, dogs, and alligators all crave human flesh. Side quests even point to animals stealing babies. One could deduce that the drug, or the red trees are to blame, but it is never specifically addressed.

3 The Other World

How exactly does the other world work? It seems like York is entering the minds of people, similar to Persona 5. Defeating them in these dimensions will weaken them. If that is the case, why do all these internal areas look the same and are protected by the same scissor clowns, door jesters, and contortionists? Also, what’s the point explanation for it happening outside?

2 The Skateboard

Whatever happened to York’s car? Since he is driving a vehicle in Deadly Premonition, one could assume he got it back from the thief? On that subject, why did the thief leave his skateboard behind? That was awful nice of him. It’s not a big question, but this whole subplot is a bit odd to say the least.

1 The Gun Arm

In Deadly Premonition whenever York is in the other world, he uses weapons as they appear in reality. In this sequel his arm fused with Mr. Alligator to give him more power. This is true in the final conflict as well which happens after the first game. The question then is why do his powers differ between Le Carré and Greenvale? Is it a plot hole or is there another yet to be revealed reason?
