According to Deadpool's creator Rob Liefeld, there are currently no plans for Deadpool 3 at Marvel. After Fox merged with Disney in 2019, the idea of mutants joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe was exciting, but now they could leave out a popular character.

In an interview with Inverse, Liefeld said he was unsure if the characters from the X-Men franchise would find their way into the Marvel Universe. He praised the first two Deadpool movies, but wasn't afraid to admit that even if Marvel began working on the next film now, it would still take about four years to complete.

"For me, as the fever calms down, people just need to calm down and realize that Deadpool one and two were released within two years of each other, 2016 and 2018," Liefeld said. "I just can’t… I’m not really that crazy about Marvel’s plan right now.”

Liefeld's views are very different than those of Deadpool star, Ryan Reynolds. During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on May 5, Reynolds said that however Deadpool was integrated with Disney and Marvel, it would be so much fun to explore and create.

"There's a lot more story to tell," Reynolds said. "So we hope we get to do that sooner than later."

While the previous Deadpool films have been rated R, the director of Deadpool 2, David Leitch, said the next film didn't necessarily need to be rated the same. Even though executive chairman Bob Iger has given his blessing for another R-rated Deadpool film, Leitch believes a middle ground could be found.

Marvel already has Phase 4 of their cinematic universe all planned out with its debut headed by Black Widow followed by The Eternals, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and the respective sequels for Spider-Man: Far From Home, Thor: Ragnarok, and Doctor Strange. As of now, none of these insinuate any involvement from previous Fox properties.

With Disney's tight hold on their properties, it's not surprising that the idea of Deadpool 3 may not align with the way they want to portray their brand. But if they allow the filmmakers space to create, there could be a place for the character to exist within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But as Liefeld said, there were two films that were well received and portrayed the character accurately. Time will tell if Deadpool makes another appearance.
