Over the weekend, Izanagi Games created a teaser website for its next title, Death Come True. A new project written and directed by Danganronpa creator Kazutaka Kodaka, a countdown timer was ticking down the hours until early in the morning on December 10, 2019. When it finished, Japanese Actor Kanata Hongou was revealed to be the lead character.

Before that reveal, a poster on the website had some vague text that read, "Is this a movie? Or a game?" It was then followed up by, "A story that begins by your choices." When the timer ended, Hongou was shown with a description of the main character Makoto Karaki. Hongou previously starred in the stage adaptation of Danganronpa and voiced the main character of Danganronpa 3, so he's a fitting person for the lead.

Izanagi describes the game as such:

When Makoto Karaki wakes up in a hotel, he seemed to have lost his memory. He has no recollection of who he is or why he is in the hotel. By watching the news on TV, he learns that he is wanted for a series of murders.

Izanagi Games is stating that Death Come True will be Japan's first-ever "interactive content" game. The story will develop based on player choices and there are multiple endings to discover. It will see players take control of Makoto as he attempts to clear his name for the various murders he's accused of.

When characters die, Makoto has the ability to "Time Leap" to different points in time. This will allow him to see all possible angles and discover if he truly is the criminal everyone is saying. It's like an interesting mixture of Danganronpa and Zero Escape with some FMV shenanigans thrown in.

It's unlikely we'll see this game on Thursday's The Game Awards, but those curious will have reason to return to the website on December 13. A new character and actor reveal will be taking place at 3 am EST/1700 JST. We'll likely receive some more information about this game, which already sounds like yet another hit from Kodaka. Hopefully, it doesn't involve any child murder.
