Review copies have been sent and with them the "Strand game" takes flight. A review embargo for Death Stranding has been scheduled for November 1, exactly one week before its release. Reviews will release across the globe on November 1 at 12:01 p.m. PDT and 4:01 p.m. JDT.

With the game's world tour starting on October 31 in Paris, along with going gold recently, there's no turning back for the legendary game designer. This time Hideo Kojima can't push back the release date like he's been known to do in the past. It's the home stretch for Death Stranding fans and the wait could not feel any longer.

Interestingly, in a now-deleted Tweet, the news had been broken nearly a week ago. Along with the embargo, the review copies also revealed that the game takes up a mere 45GB of storage on the PS4. That's less than half of what Grand Theft Auto V required and that was a 2013 game rebuilt on next-gen hardware. With a massive world set in a dystopian America, which includes bridge babies, BTs and a separate reality called Hades, Death Stranding's overall size invites concern for those expecting an enormous game. The insane multiplayer feature is also optional, which explains why it doesn't necessitate a PS Plus subscription. It will be interesting to see how gameplay fairs when comparing multiplayer to non-multiplayer playthroughs.

As the release date nears, along with the review embargo, many are wondering if Hideo's first solo outing will end up a flop. With all of the hype bolstering fans' anticipation, there's a great deal of weight riding on Death Stranding, not simply with its multiplayer function but also in its immersive narrative experience. It would be difficult to imagine a subpar Kojima project, but the highly ambitious title certainly invites confusion and derision from the audiences unfamiliar with his previous work. Along with blending genres, Kojima has also meshed both multiplayer and single player into one seemingly cohesive unit. While the feature might be optional, it alone proves that Death Stranding reaches beyond the curve and will challenge the industry in many extraordinary ways.

As the launch day nears and the reviews start to pile up, it will be interesting to see how Kojima reacts given his already absurdly beautiful Death Stranding tweets. It's arguably one of the most mind-numbing titles to date and will keep fans guessing well beyond the review embargo.
