Arkane Lyon has released a statement revealing that Deathloop will no longer be released before the end of 2020, and has been moved to Q2 2021.

The world remains an uncertain place for everyone right now. The video game industry is one that has been lucky enough to have been affected positively in a number of ways over the course of the past few months. As people have been subject to lockdowns in different countries, many have turned to gaming as a way to pass the time. However, the business has not been immune to the pandemic.

Much like many other companies, developers and studios have been forced to either work remotely or go on hiatus altogether. That has resulted in a fair few titles getting delays, to the point that it currently feels as if the PS5 and Xbox Series X will be seriously lacking launch titles this holiday season.

Deathloop was one of the few titles gamers expected to see on PS5 before the end of the year. However, a statement released by developer Arkane Lyon has revealed that will no longer be the case. "As we've adjusted to work-from-home, we found that delivering this new and exciting experience, at the polish and quality level that defines both an Arkane game and a true next-gen experience, is taking longer than normal," the statement reads. Arkane's full statement can be found in full below.

Instead of a release before the end of 2020, Deathloop will now be coming to PS5 and PC at some point during the second quarter of 2021, barring any further delays. The release schedule in terms of other platforms is now unclear. Deathloop's release on the Xbox Series X was meant to happen sometime after the initial release. There's now a chance Deathloop will be released on all three platforms at the same time.

Deathloop joins a list of delayed games from this generation and the next that includes Marvel's Avengers, Cyberpunk 2077, Halo Infinite, and a number of others. The trickiest part of all when it comes to the release of a delayed game is making sure that extended wait wasn't for nothing. Arkane Lyon will need to make sure Deathloop doesn't do that when it is eventually released, hopefully before summer 2021.
