You’d better be ready to die a lot in Arkane Studios’ next game Deathloop, as the title’s campaign designer said the game is basically Arkane Lyon’s Bloodborne. Of course, dying will be fun in Deathloop, and things will never go the way you planned. More than that, it'll inspire you to visit old Arkane releases and see them in a new light.

Deathloop is about a timeloop, which can be broken only when you assassinate all eight targets in just one day. Under these circumstances, it is barely a surprise that players will probably die not once or twice when trying to fulfill that goal. Things can be even more challenging for the players, as Arkane’s Dana Nightingale specifically highlighted on Twitter how the upcoming title is “a little like Bloodborne,” which is widely known as not an easy game.

Nightingale referred to another similarity between the games, as playing Deathloop will make you want to revisit older Arkane games to appreciate them in a new light – similar to how Bloodborne gave fans a new perspective on other FromSoftware games. The campaign designer recommends playing the Dishonored titles and Prey with Mooncrush DLC. According to Nightingale, “your approach will be different and you’ll get to experience them all over again” after beating Deathloop this September.

Later, the developer clarified exactly what she meant by comparing Deathloop to Bloodborne. Nightingale said she believes that “Bloodborne is the most fun to play” in the FromSoftware portfolio. In Deathloop she said things going not the way you planned are part of the systemic design, and it’s exactly “where the game can surprise you.”

With all its complex systems, Deathloop may well be Arkane’s most complicated project to date. Game director Dinga Bakaba recently said he doesn’t think the title would be able to preserve the level of ambition it has if the team hasn’t moved to next-gen only.

Deathloop was originally scheduled for release in May, only to be delayed to September 14. The developer admitted it didn’t want to enter a painful crunch to achieve the desired level of quality with the project. The extra time will be used to accomplish the studios’ goal to create “a fun, stylish, and mind-bending player experience.”

Deathloop is coming to PC and is a timed exclusive on PlayStation 5.
