Trying to mine your way through the caves of a combative planet filled with swarms of monsters isn't easy, you'll need to use every tool at your disposal to try and survive. It's not enough to choose the best weapon or right class, the modifications and weapon overclocks need to work together as well.

Working with other players in Deep Rock Galactic, you'll have the chance to create a strong team that highlights the different strengths to cover all aspects of combat. Out of the over 90 available overclock options, there are a few that stand out among the rest, providing the smallest downside with important upgrades can change the tide of battle so you don't lose important resources along the way.

8 Cycle Overload

blasting a mine insect

Taking the power of a shotgun and supercharging it has never felt so good; the Warthog becomes a destroyer that mows through heavy enemies. Increasing the rate of fire pairs perfectly when you're facing down a swarm of creatures crawling towards you at rapid speed.

The reduced accuracy isn't a big deal because of the Warthog's bullet spray. Unless you're closing your eyes and running in headfirst you should be fine. Even the reduced reload speed is made for by the rate of fire, leaving you a heavy damage cannon that needs some ammo attention.

7 Mini Shells

taking out insects in the mines

Mini Shells is one of those upgrades that almost anyone that knows what they're doing uses, increasing your ammo capacity greatly by reducing the damage slightly. It also gives you more stability with your shot, taking away 50 percent of the recoil, making fast-moving creatures easier to catch.

Both magazine size and max ammo give such a giant swing into the positive that even the small drop in all-important damage isn't enough to downgrade it. Smart modifications can more than makeup for any damage drop and give you one of the most powerful guns without the worry of running empty.

6 Elephant Rounds

firing at a bulk detonator

Turning a handgun into a cannon by modifying it with the Thunderhead's ammunition, this overclock should only be used when you're facing a tank. Doubling the damage you usually get, Elephant Rounds will bring down almost all other stats about the gun.

Increasing the base accuracy to make up for the massive recoil, keeping your distance is advised. You'll only get three rounds to take down the enemy before a slow reload, leaving you vulnerable to a return attack. Keeping a secondary with some suppressive fire can open up combat, allowing you space to fire off at maximum impact.

5 Sticky Fuel

throwing flames at an insect

Extending the duration that sticky flames deal damage while boosting the damage itself, this overclock takes the best things about the Crspr flamethrower and makes them better. It will also open up a lot of modification combinations that give you a wide array of options for different situations.

It does reduce your tank capacity and fuel, limiting your spread. However, the flames you do put down deal a lot more damage and can trap enemies for a longer time, forcing you to consider your shot carefully without shooting in a 360-degree twirl. Secondary weapon choices become a lot more compatible when enemies are forced into your chosen areas.

4 Bullets Of Mercy

firing on a heavy enemy

Dropping the magazine size for instant kills to already injured opponents, Bullets of Mercy turns this gun into an executioner. From poisoned, burning, or stunned to frozen and electrocuted, every condition available gives you a 33 percent damage boost.

Unlike other overclocks where you have to strategize to find a good combination, Bullets Of Mercy is the perfect follow-up to every effect weapon in the game. Saving ammo on both guns (something you'll need with the ammo drop) and taking away the struggle to finish when there's more than one enemy.

3 Clean Sweep

destroying a horde

It doesn't get any better than an upgrade with no downsides, increasing the blast radius and damage of this already devastating weapon. Saving on the limited ammunition, Clean Sweep makes sure you get every bit of value for every shot, clearing out an entire tunnel in one fell swoop.

The size of some swarms calls for bigger explosions. Often you'll find creatures that have escaped even the PGL's wide coverage. Considering it's not even the most expensive overclock for the weapon, Clean Sweep easily takes the top spot for value.

2 Lead Storm

bullets fly past the spider in deep rock galactic

The Lead Storm minigun wasn't a maneuverable gun to begin with, but this overclock locks you into position while giving you a major increase in damage. You won't be stunning monsters as much, and when you do it won't last very long, a more than fair exchange for the power-up.

Even the kickback that sits you in place can be worked around with good placement and sharp aim, rewarding skill without limiting you with downgraded stats. The matching name gives away this weapons star choice, taking what everyone loves about the minigun and improving it.

1 Carpet Bomber

using perks on the gun

When your weapon is called the heavy autocannon, a little damage reduction is barely noticeable. The increased splash damage can cover more area than any other weapon in a short period of time, spread to other monsters and making the entire swarm weak with a few shots.

The only overclock that can compete with the devastation of Lead Storm, any team that decides to combine the two will face little to no resistance until the very hardest challenges in Deep Rock Galactic. Perfectly suited for cave tunnels when you'll feel the most overwhelmed, the area damage will take all the rushed panic out of the situation.
