Deep Rock Galactic has introduced tailored Seasons to the game. Instead of patches and updates here and there, we will get an all-in-one with Season updates. These updates will include smaller game fixes as well as larger additions to the game such as enemies, weapons, and more.

DRG's wild, procedurally generated levels already gave it plenty of replay value, but with this addition, Ghost Ship Games has practically ensured that no dwarf is going to find themselves bored anytime soon! Here's everything you need to know when getting started with Season 01, entitled Rival Incursion.

5 A New Mission

You can find a new type of mission at the map terminal on the Space Rig. This mission is called Industrial Sabotage. It includes new mechanics and enemies. This is an entirely new mission mode where you must hack power stations, kill robots, and attempt to earn a new type of currency known as Company Scrip. Company Scrip can only be earned through a new type of event found in Industrial Sabotage.

The new event involves chasing down drone enemies and shaking them down for Data Cells. You can also find and hack Data Deposits to get Data Cells. Hacking is a new mechanic that requires a new tool, appropriately called the Hacking Device. By hacking these deposits or killing drones, you can collect and trade Data Cells at the Space Rig for Company Scrip. If you've grown tired of the same repeat missions over and over again, you'll be spending hours in Industrial Sabotage.

4 Robot Enemies

You heard that right. There are new types of enemies. And we're not talking more weird alien bugs and monsters. Rival Incursion brings Rival Tech robots who swarm in from the skies. You'll no longer be fighting biological beings, but rather trying to hack strong and intelligent robots.

There will be flying bots that can also walk on the ground, drones trying to mine, and turrets posted up to protect the biggest foe of all — The Caretaker. This is the largest Rival Tech enemy that is sworn to protect important data. Taking down this boss requires special weaponry.

3 New Guns

All-new weapons are available for every class and each comes with up to six different Overclocks. Just like any additional weapon not included in the main loadout, you have to be a certain level to unlock the Assignment for these weapons. The level needed to unlock these Assignments is level 20.

Stronger and more interesting weapons won't come for free. Aside from working towards reaching level 20 with the class you prefer, you'll have to then grind for the Credits and materials to pay for the gun. These new weapons include new mechanics and gameplay. For instance, we've seen corrosive sludge before when exploring alien caves. Now the Driller has a weapon that shoots that stuff out for fun. Engineer's new Smart Rifle has a target-lock mechanic where you can lock on to multiple targets before firing.

2 How To Get The Loadout Skins

Deep Rock Galactic Rival Incursion Skins Tree

Making your gear look cool requires time and effort. As you traverse through missions you can find Machine Events or complete Deep Dives that allow you to get Matrix Cores for cosmetic purposes. You can also find Lost Packs during missions, which give you a random cosmetic for your pickaxe or a new victory pose.

Rival Incursion brings a new set of skins for all your gear. You can now access a Seasonal terminal on the Space Rig that allows you to gander at the Cosmetic Tree. Progressing through this tree requires Company Scrip, gained by handing in Data Cells from the robot enemies. You may also earn Scrip by progressing through the Performance Pass. Company Scrip is made only for purchasing Season skins.

1 How Seasons Work In DRG

Deep Rock Galactic season 1 overview

As mentioned, Seasons are updates made into a bigger package. Each Season will include new content for the game. As a Season passes, the events, weapons, and skins that come with it will still be available. They will just be acquired or incorporated differently once another Season is running.

Just like with any live service video game, each Season has a Battle Pass. But Deep Rock Galactic makes their Performance Pass 100% free for the community. Each Season Pass will include a multitude of challenges and rewards for players. Challenges involve interacting with the new missions and events provided. Rewards for completing challenges are things like dwarf cosmetics, armor skins, Credits, and Company Scrip.

Season 01 Rival Incursion is coming to an end soon, which leaves players wondering what Season 02 will have in store. While they can't reveal all their secrets, Ghost Ship Games has made it known that there will be new weapons next season too. Season 02 is expected to release sometime around early Spring 2022.
