Months after parting ways with Blizzard, Activision is no longer included in the credits for Destiny 2 on the Battle.net launcher. The split between Bungie and Activision was a long time coming and happened after approximately eight years of tension over how to handle the long-term planning of the game and its content. Now, Destiny 2 states that it was developed and published by Bungie, while the Activision section appears in “Partner Games.”

For now, it is unclear whether non-Activision titles will be featured on the Battle.net launcher in the future. Destiny 2 is still in the launcher and continues to receive support. There is, however, a question as to where else Destiny 2 may pop up for sale now that it is considered self-published by its developers.

The current game road map shows that Bungie still has plans for future content releases in the game, but it feels doubtful that the Battle.net launcher would be host to such sales.

Hopefully, there will be more news on this front sooner rather than later, as the game has had free trails and discounts in the past and there are sure to be opportunities for sales in the future. There is also no reason to believe that Destiny 3 is not already in development in some way.

Perhaps Steam will snag the next sequel by offering a higher split of the revenue, something which is at the forefront of discussion right now. Alternatively, Epic Games could attempt to acquire it.

There is always the possibility of Bungie creating a launcher by itself. The cost would likely be offset by not paying 20% or so to another gaming platform, though it risks irking customers who already feel as though they are pushed towards too many individual launchers.

Right now, we can only speculate. However, Bungie’s chief community representative Deej stated that there would be substantial news regarding the future of both the company and the Destiny series after the launch of the Season of Opulence in the coming of weeks.

However, there is also the possibility that any announcements made may instead be related to the untitled game that Bungie is creating for the Chinese company NetEase after receiving $100 million for development.
