Ascendancy is a new Rocket Launcher added to Destiny 2 in Season of the Lost. This ritual weapon can roll with Explosive Payload, a perk that originated on the Wendigo Grenade Launcher from Year 2. The perk isn't as powerful as it once was, although the bonus damage it provides is definitely useful for players that don't have a perfect Rocket Launcher in their Vault.

We'll be going over how you can obtain the Ascendancy Rocket Launcher, along with all three of its Ornaments. Keep in mind that Ascendancy and its ornaments are tied to various Seasonal Challenges, so it's best to get this weapon as soon as possible.

How To Obtain Ascendancy

Destiny 2 Vanguard Rank Rewards

Unlike previous ritual weapons, Ascendancy isn't tied to a specific quest. All you need to do to obtain this weapon is reach the rank of "Legend" in any ritual playlist during Season of the Lost. Three playlists will give this Rocket Launcher:

  1. Strikes
  2. Crucible
  3. Gambit

Simply partaking in any of those playlists will grant progress towards their respective ranking system—Vanguard Ranks, Valor, and Infamy. They each have the same rank-up point requirements and Activity Streak system, so the playlist you farm is mostly up to you; progress will be roughly the same for each.

The Fastest Ascendnacy Farm

Objectively speaking, Gambit is slower than the other two due to how its point system works at higher ranks. In essence, losing Gambit matches at a higher rank will grant significantly less progress towards your next rank. You'll want to stick with either Vanguard Strikes or Valor PvP. The former is arguably faster if you're willing to farm Hero or Legend Nightfalls, as each clear grants a massive chunk of progress. For those that can't speed clear Nightfalls or don't enjoy PvE much, Crucible is just as efficient.

Fulfillment Ornament (Vanguard)

Destiny 2 Ascendancy Fulfillment Ornament

Fulfillment is the Vanguard-themed ornament for Ascendancy. It's obtained by reaching the Vanguard rank of "Legend" after one rank reset. This is a fairly grindy requirement, so consider chasing this once a double Vanguard weekend is active.

Nightfalls grant the most amount of progress for Vanguard Ranks. Wait for a short strike to be the weekly Nightfall, then farm either the Hero or Legend variants. These grants the largest amount of points related to time investment. Master and GM Nightfalls will grant more points, but these take significantly longer to clear. Some good Nightfalls include Lake of Shadows, Proving Grounds (lower difficulties only), The Disgraced, and The Arms Dealer. Coupled with an Activity Streak, you should be able to get this finished in a few dedicated play sessions.

Finale Ornament (Crucible)

Destiny 2 Ascendancy Finale Ornament

Finale Ornament is the Crucible ornament for Ascendancy. You'll be able to equip this ornament upon reaching the Valor rank of "Legend" for a second time during the season. Depending on the playlist you farm, this could take a few play sessions or most of the season.

Mayhem, Momentum Control, and Rumble are the main playlists you'll want to grind. Each game will only last a few minutes. Rumble will require more skill to consistently win than the other two modes, so you might want to consider Control with a pre-made fireteam if you struggle to kill opponents in PvP. Beyond that, keep an eye out for whenever Iron Banner is active. Double Valor is always active while Iron Banner is available.

Fruition Ornament (Gambit)

Destiny 2 Ascendancy Fruition Ornament

Gambit's ornament for Ascendancy is called Fruition. This ornament will require that you reach the Infamy rank of "Legend" after resetting your Gambit rank once. Even after the progression update all ritual playlists received this season, Gambit is still the slowest playlist to level out of the bunch.

Unless you have a pre-made team, your best move is to constantly Invade. Invasions can swing entire Gambit matches in your team's favor, so getting used to Gambit's PvP system will increase your odds of winning each game. You'll also want to bring a loadout that can counter enemy Invaders. Don't forget to equip ammo finder and scavenger mods on your armor to increase the odds of Heavy ammo dropping. Just like Invading, Heavy ammo can swing a Gambit match in your team's favor. Unless you love playing Gambit, definitely wait for a double Infamy week before farming for this ornament.
