Destiny 2's dungeons are some of the game's most popular and replayable PvE activities. Bungie's well-crafted dungeons are packed with intense boss fights, stand-out mechanics, and an immersive atmosphere, making them a must-play for any serious Guardian. Every dungeon deserves at least one playthrough.

However, what keeps players coming back for more is the unique loot pool, especially if the exotic weapon is more than worth it. It's good to know which dungeons handsomely reward your time so that you'll be ready to slam clears back-to-back during pinnacle week.

6 Shattered Throne

Destiny 2: an ominous building with a tower in the background

Released during the Forsaken expansion, Shattered Throne tasks your Guardians to enter Queen Mara's Thone World to discover the source of the Taken corruption in the Dreaming City. Unfortunately, the Shattered Throne dungeon has no special drops because it rewards you with Dreaming City weapons, which aren't competitive in the first place.

If you prefer the archetype, Vouchsafe is a Void Scout Rifle that can be a decent alternative to Doom of Chelcis. Waking Vigil is a contender for PvP Handcannons with Rangefinder and Kill Clip. The Retold Tale shotgun has a surprisingly long range and performs well in PvP. And Tigersprite is good enough in PvE with Outlaw and Kill Clip. It's way better to farm the Blind Well event than dive into the dungeon for Dreaming City weapons.

5 Prophecy

A player using their jet pack over a red big pathway inside a crystal with a hole.

Prophecy is a trippy dungeon that has your fireteam enter an otherworldly realm to undergo challenges from the enigmatic Nine to ask them an important question about the nature of Darkness. After pondering these existential questions, all that's left is to sift through the loot, which has some great guns but not outstanding ones.

The A Swift Verdict Sidearm slaps Guardians in PvP, boasting a fast TTK with Killing Wind and Kill Clip. The Judgment Handcannon can roll Demolitionist and Adrenaline Junkie, enabling grenade spamming builds. In addition, some players swear by The Long Walk Sniper Rifle in PvP, although snipers are mostly personal preferences.

Overall, the Prophecy dungeon needs a slight touch-up to compete with the newer weapons. It's also worth noting that the dungeon is free for all players, making it a good source of loot and a fantastic introduction for newer players.

4 Pit Of Heresy

An arena with plenty of enemies shooting each other and a big green crystal in the middle.

In the Pit of Heresy, your fireteam will infiltrate the bottom of the Scarlet Keep to vanquish Zulmak and other evils that lurk below. Pit of Heresy is an amazing dungeon with a grimdark atmosphere and fun mechanics, although it falls short regarding rewards. Instead, the dungeon pulls weapons from the Moon's loot pool, which most aren't worth farming for, except for the Arc Logic Auto Rifle and the Loud Lullaby Handcannon.

Where Pit of Heresy really shines is the dungeon drops armor with extreme spikes in desirable stats. Farming this dungeon during pinnacle week is highly recommended, especially if you don't have a set of artifice armor.

3 Spire Of The Watcher

Watcher Wyvern Boss aiming at a player.

Led by Legendary Warlock Osiris, Spire of the Watcher has a fireteam assault a Seraph bunker on Mars that's under the control of the Witness. The dungeon features a Wild West theme, including the Cowboy style armor, which is the biggest reason you'll want to farm it. After all, weapons and meta might change, but good drip stays the same.

Spire of the Watcher has a few good weapons in its pool. The Terminus Horizon Arc Machine Gun can shred majors with Triple Tap and Target Lock. Wilderflight is a one-of-a-kind Grenade Launcher that fires two rounds, which is amazing for DPS. Furthermore, the Long Arm Scout Rifle is so satisfying to use, deals serious damage, and has good traits like Explosive Payload.

Lastly, the Hierarchy of Needs exotic bow hits hard for a primary weapon, especially if you're playing into its gimmick. However, what holds back the dungeon are the lackluster Seventh Seraph weapons. These weapons dilute the loot pool, making it harder to grab your god rolls on the better weapons.

2 Grasp Of Avarice

Three Guardians jumping out of a cave.

Released during Season of the Lost, Grasp of Avarice is a tale of Guardians that were corrupted by greed. It's most likely that the fireteam was a group of top-tier Crucible players because the dungeon's loot pool would make Lord Shaxx proud. The Matador 64 shotgun was busted back in the original Destiny, and it's back again to one-tap in PvP.

The Eyasluna Handcannon is a fan-favorite because of its superb handling and aim assistance, letting you consistently land shots. It's also a decent PvE weapon with Outlaw and Headstone. Those who prefer sniping must add the 1000 Yard Stare to their collection. It's a dependable head shooting machine that can quickscope with Quickdraw and Snapshot Sights. Finally, it's also the easiest dungeon to farm the coveted artifice armor.

1 Duality

Destiny 2: a large golden statue of Emperor Calus

Introduced during Season of the Haunted, Eris Morn leads your fireteam into Calus' nightmare-filled mind. And just like the narcissistic emperor, you'll come out of this harrowing journey with so much valuable loot. First off, the ever-so-useful Lingering Dread grenade launcher is a beast for controlling adds with Disorienting Grenades, Auto-Loading Holsters, and Chill Clip.

Duality also offers the Arc Linear Fusion Rifle Stormchaser, which shoots in a three-round burst, a reliable option for short damage phases. Also present is the Void SMG Unforgiven, which can keep you healthy with its Repulsor Brace trait. While it may not clear red bars as fast as Funnelweb, it has a strong perk pool for surviving in harder content.

Additionally, Duality is the most efficient master dungeon to farm for artifice armor. The only downside to this loot buffet is that the exotic, Heartshadow, is a niche sword that only works with Void Hunters. Nonetheless, it's time to rev up your Lament and start slicing your way through Calus' trauma to claim Duality's great loot.
