In contrast to the optimistic heroism that characterized Season of the Dawn, Destiny 2’s Season of the Worthy has been an adventure in doomsday stockpiling and shoveling bits into Rasputin’s cavernous bunkers. Overkill? Maybe not, given that the Pyramids spelling in-universe annihilation are fast closing in on the Traveler and the Last City.

Players paying attention to Rasputin’s bunkers in between rushing down the death slide and smashing into his console may have noticed a wall-length panel tracking the solar system. When the Io bunker launched, red triangles representing the mysterious Pyramid ships began to appear on the edges of the solar system map, which is terrifying as far as lore implications go, as whatever entity controlling the Pyramid ships has quite the talent for wiping civilizations off the face of the universe.

With the weekly reset, a quick peek into Rasputin’s bunkers shows that the Pyramid ships aren’t just approaching the Traveler: they’re speeding faster than a streamer grinding during day one of an exotic drop. In the span of a week the Pyramid ships jumped from the very edge of the map to nearly breaking into its first section. Because the map is stylistically pixelated, a player looking at it closely can see that, compared to when the Pyramids first appeared, the frontmost ship has moved maybe 10 pixels forward.

Now that’s a lot of progression! If the ships keep up that pace throughout the season, they might reach Earth and the Traveler by fall — just in time for Destiny 2’s next expansion. And if that doesn’t get you excited, the ships aren’t just covering ground. When the Io bunker dropped, there were two Pyramid ships. Now there’s eight. All the pieces are coming together, and when the next expansion hits, there’s a good chance that Guardians will soon be facing the full might of the Traveler’s enemies.

Destiny 2 has been upping the stakes since Shadowkeep and the unveiling of a Pyramid ship buried in the depths of the haunted, haunted Moon. While Season of the Dawn and the return of Saint-14 was a very literal reminder of all that’s good in the Destiny universe, Season of the Worthy warns players not to get too comfortable. There's a lot coming, and Guardians are going to need their eyes up to meet it.
