Destiny 2 info has dropped at E3 with an explosive new trailer and open BETA access dates.

Starting off our Destiny 2 bonanza is the trailer, which introduces us to the game’s main villain. His name is Dominus Ghaul, and in his spare time he likes long walks on the beach and sundering the last remnants of human civilization.

That beach part may not be true, strictly speaking, but he certainly seems like a proper bad guy as the trailer starts off with him extolling how he “commands legions, conquered worlds,” and “waged war across the galaxy to prove my worth.” Sounds like somebody is compensating for something.

As the Emperor of the Red Legion faction of the Cabal, he may just be trying to prove his street cred, which seems unnecessary as the trailer starts with his armies destroying the Last City and stripping the Guardians of their Light-based powers. Destiny 2 will follow the Guardians as they scour the solar system for new powers and explore other parts of the Destiny universe.

Backstory and villains are all well and good, but what we really wanted were dates, and we got them! Destiny 2 will have a rolling open BETA program starting in July with PS4 and ending in August with PC, with pre-orders getting first dibs:

July 18: PlayStation 4 Pre-Order BETA

July 19: Xbox One Pre-Order BETA

July 21: Open BETA for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One

July 23: Console BETA End-date

Along with getting early access to the beta, pre-orderers also get some exclusive swag. Pre-ordering the deluxe edition on any console will give you the first 2 expansions, a legendary sword, a legendary player emote, and a Cabal Empire themed emblem. If you’re a PS4 deluxe edition pre-orderer, you get all that as well as an exclusive strike called Lake of Shadows, an exclusive ship called the City Apex, an exotic weapon called the Weapon Borealis, and an exclusive PVP map called Retribution.

Destiny 2 has several stations set up on the E3 floor as well, with Activision, NVIDIA and Playstation booths all getting their own gameplay demos.

Perhaps the best news of all is that Destiny 2 will be here soon. The launch date for consoles is September 6th, and on PC it’s October 24th.
