Masterworking gear is a crucial part of making the perfect build in Destiny 2. Ever since Beyond Light streamlined the Armor 2.0 process, creating a powerful build is easier than ever. Unfortunately, players will still need to struggle through Nightfalls and other tough content to get their armor to rank ten.

Enhancement Prisms are a core part of that economy. Three Prisms are required to Masterwork a Legendary piece of armor, while five are needed to Masterwork an Exotic. If it wasn't obvious, Masterworking an entire armor set is costly. At least, it is if you buy them from a vendor. There are quite a few ways to obtain Enhancement Prisms in Destiny 2. Let's go over all of them.

Updated July 28, 2023, by Charles Burgar: Enhancement Prisms and Ascendant Shards are receiving a few changes next season. To prepare for the inventory cap increase, we've updated this list with up-to-date drop sources for Enhancement Prisms, farming strategies, and tips on how to earn Enhancement Prisms as quickly as possible.

How To Obtain Enhancement Prisms

Destiny 2 Champion

Enhancement Prisms are mainly earned from completing Nightfall: The Ordeal activities, although the Beyond Light expansion has included various Ghost Shell mods that grant this coveted Masterwork material. You can earn Enhancement Prisms from the following:

Nightfalls And Empire Hunts

Destiny 2 Nightfall Difficulty

Prism Amount: 1-4

Completing Nightfalls or Empire Hunts on Hero difficulty or higher have a chance of granting Enhancement Prisms on completion. Grandmaster difficulty has the best reward to time ratio, granting four guaranteed Enhancement Prisms on a Platinum completion with a chance for one or two more. Lower difficulties also drop Enhancement Cores albeit in lower quantities.

Bungie will sometimes release a double Nightfall loot week for Destiny 2, granting two random rewards upon a Nightfall completion instead of one. This means players can earn four Enhancement Prisms every Master Nightfall completion. Farming Masterwork materials during a double loot week is highly recommended.

Rank Up Rewards

Destiny 2 Shaxx Rewards

Prism Amount: 2

Increasing your reputation with most vendors in Destiny 2 will unlock new rewards. For all ritual vendors and some destination vendors, reaching rank 13 will grant two Enhancement Prisms. If you reset your Infamy or Valor in a season, reaching rank 16 in either system will grant an additional two Enhancement Prisms, giving you four Enhancement Prisms in total per reset.

Season Pass

Destiny 2 Enhancement Prisms Season Pass

Prism Amount: 3 (x2) each season

You must own the current season to earn these rewards; they are not part of the free track available to all players.

Each Season Pass grants Masterwork Materials if players own the current season, Enhancement Prisms included. Guardians can expect Prisms at the following ranks:

  • Rank 60: 3x Enhancement Prisms
  • Rank 70: 3x Enhancement Prisms

Rahool Currency Exchange

Destiny 2 Rahool Glimmer Exchange

Prism Amount: 1 each purchase

Master Rahool sells Enhancement Prisms at the Tower for a small Glimmer fee. You'll also need Enhancement Cores to purchase prisms, so we only recommend doing this if you have a large stockpile of Enhancement Cores and only need a few prisms. The exact exchange costs are listed below:

Greater Core Harvest Mod

Destiny 2 Greater Core Harvest Mod

Prism Amount: 1

Masterworking a Ghost Shell will unlock a fourth mod slot that can equip unique activity mods. One of these mods, Greater Core Harvest, allows players to obtain Enhancement Prisms by partaking in core activities. A Harvest mod exists for each ritual activity—Vanguard Ops, Crucible, and Gambit.

Each Greater Core Harvest mod does the following:

  • Greater Core Harvest (Vanguard): Defeating bosses in Vanguard playlist strikes of Nightfalls has a chance to award an Enhancement Prism.
  • Greater Core Harvest (Crucible): Precision final blows in Crucible have a chance to award an Enhancement Prism.
  • Greater Core Harvest (Gambit): Defeating invaders in Gambit has a chance to award an Enhancement Prism.

Crucible's Greater Core Harvest seems to be the best of the bunch, granting one Enhancement Prism on average after landing 20 precision final blows. That might sound extreme, but good Crucible players can obtain that many precision kills in a single 6v6 match or after a couple of 3v3 games.

The Vanguard one is less rewarding, having around a 5% drop chance per boss kill. Fortunately, boss kills do include Champions and other yellow-bar opponents.

The Best Enhancement Prism Farm

Destiny 2 Empire Hunts

There are three Enhancement Prism farms we can recommend:

  1. Nightfall Farming
  2. Crucible Farming
  3. Legend Lost Sector Farming

Nightfall Farming

Destiny 2 The Arms Dealer Nightfall

For PvE players, you can't beat Nightfalls. Get a fireteam together, bring a loadout that can quickly clear the Nightfall that's active, then clear the activity on the hardest activity you can do in a reasonable amount of time. Master and Grandmaster difficulties are best. You can further increase your Prism gains by equipping a Greater Core Harvest (Vanguard) mod and by farming during double Vanguard loot weeks. Keep an eye out for the "Next Week in Destiny" post on log-in to learn about any upcoming double loot weeks.

Crucible Farming

Destiny 2 PvP

Despite PvP not being everyone's cup of tea, we recommend most players give this farm a try. It's quite simple:

  • Play your favorite PvP playlist.
  • Equip a Greater Core Harvest (Crucible) mod on your Ghost.
  • Use a precision weapon, such as a Hand Cannon or Bow.

Yup, that's all there is to it. Greater Core Harvest will grant one Enhancement Prism for every 20 precision final blows you get in PvP, give or take a few kills. Hand Cannons like Ace of Spades work great here, but you can use any weapon. Be sure whichever weapon you do run can land precision kills easily. If you're a decent PvP player, this serves as a casual way of farming Enhancement Prisms.

Legend Lost Sector Farming

Destiny 2 Extraction Lost Sector Start

Thanks to economy changes in Lightfall, farming Legend or Master Lost Sectors for Enhancement Prisms is not only viable, but it's arguably the best Enhancement Prism farm in the game. Legendary Lost Sectors drop one or two Enhancement Prisms a run, and they only take a few minutes to clear with a good build. You don't have to clear these solo to receive prisms either. Get a fireteam together, use builds that align with the Lost Sector's active surges, and run it as many times as desired.
