It's the beginning of the end for 4 Year 1 destinations in Destiny 2, here's everything you need to know about Exodus: Preparation.

This week's reset introduced a ton of new content, including a new exotic quest, a new location for the Contact public event, and major new developments in the seasonal story arc. Things escalated quickly this week, going from "uh oh IO" to "every planet is doomed" faster than my 0-3 run in Trials this weekend.

The first "arrival" of the season happened at IO, which is where we've been running the Contact public event and the weekly Interference mission each reset. We've known that the Contact event would eventually move to Titan. Finally this week it did, but that wasn't the only new arrival. Spooky triangle ships have appeared above both Mars and Mercury as well, and Zavala sets us up with a quest called Exodus: Preparation. By traveling to each planet to recon for Zavala, players can earn a new Engram type in the Prismatic Recaster and a Masterworked Grenade Launcher. Here's how the questline works.

Completing the Exodus: Preparation Quest

The quest itself is fairly straightforward. You'll start by visiting Sloane on Titan and completing 1 of 2 new weekly bounties. These bounties reward a brand new Focused Engram called the Exodus-Focused Umbral Engram. Once complete, return to Sloane to advance the quest. You'll then move on to IO where you'll repeat the same process with Asher Mir before returning to Zavala to collect your Masterworked The Militia's Birthright grenade launcher.

Zavala will then send you to Mars and Mercury to do the same. After returning to Zavala the questline ends for now. This is the first part of the Exodus quest which will likely be repeated each week for a while until part 2 unlocks later this season. Here are the best bounties to complete at each destination.

Titan

On Titan, your bounty choices are:

-45 Hive killed in Tidal Anchor or Sinking Docks + 3 Patrols

-75 Hive killed + 1 strike

In this case, its best to choose the strike. You can queue for Savuthun's Song from the Titan map, as as you might expect, it's easy to find players to queue with for this. You might not get all 75 kills in the strike, but it's easy enough to run around Titan and finish it up. The problem with the first option is that there are not enough Hive to kill in either Tidal Anchor or Sinking Dock, so you'll end up farming in both and wasting a lot of time.

IO

On IO, your bounty choices are:

-3 Public Events

-60 Ability Kills

If you have a spec handy for melee, the second option is very easy. I used a Middle Tree Solar Hunter wearing Ophidia Spathe for double melee attacks and high points in strength. Playing With Fire combined with a lot of strength causes Knife Trick to reload with almost no cool down. I ran the Sanctum Of Bones lost sector that's right next to Asher twice and complete the bounty, no sweat

At this point, you can return to Zavala and collect your The Militia's Birthright. It has Moving Target, which is pretty useless on a grenade launcher, but otherwise, Proximity Mine and Hard Launch are decent stats on a kinetic slot grenade launcher. Your next stop will be on Mercury with Brother Vance.

Mercury

On Mercury, your bounty choices are:

-75 kills + 1 Strike

-7 Minotaur/Hydra kills + 10 Finishers

Without a doubt, the 2nd option is way faster. 2 laps around Mercury or 1 public event will knock this one out. You can use an auto rifle or submachine gun to weaken enemies enough for a finisher move. There's a scattering of Minotaur around and plenty of Hydra if you're in time for the public event. This bounty is way faster than running the strike. Next, head to Mars.

Mars

On Mars, your bounty choices are:

-60 Thrall kills +25 Melee kills

-75 kills + 1 Strike

The first option is the faster choice, especially if you've already worked out a strong melee build from IO. You want to activate a level 1 Escalation Protocol. The public event that starts outside of Braytech does not spawn nearly enough Thrall to finish this bounty, but the Escalation Protocol that starts in the same area does. Focus on just kill the thrall even if the level 1 fails, repeating it is faster than farming level 2, and way faster than running the strike. Return to Zavala when you're done to finish this leg of the questline.

What's Next?

This is just the first half of the Exodus quest. Dataminers have discovered that the second half, Exodus: Evacuation will resolve this plotline, likely towards the end of the season. The reward for completing the entire quest will be an exotic sidearm called Traveller's Chosen.

Hopefully, Asher, Ana, Sloane, and Brother Vance can be evacuated from their destinations before it's too late.
