Destiny 2's Festival of the Lost is back in Season of the Lost, complete with a rather large overhaul from previous years. Instead of clearing out sections of the Haunted Forest for loot, Guardians will now be exploring Haunted Lost Sectors for Candy and weapons.

If you've never played a holiday event in Destiny before, these events are a great time to jump into the game to obtain some strong weapons, Masterwork materials, and cosmetic goodies. We'll be going over what Festival of the Lost is for newcomers, how to complete this event's introductory quest, how Haunted Lost Sectors work, and the rewards you can expect from participating in this event.

What Is Festival Of The Lost?

Destiny 2 Festival of the Lost 2021

Festival of the Lost is Destiny 2's annual Halloween event that lasts from October 12 to November 2. This year, Guardians will be delving into a new activity named Haunted Lost Sectors—a Halloween-themed take on Destiny 2's Lost Sector locations—to earn event currency and rewards. Participating in this event will grant cosmetic items, unique helmets called "Masks" themed around Destiny 2's various main characters, and three weapons exclusive to this event.

Gone But Not Forgotten Quest

Destiny 2 Gone But Not Forgotten Quest

When you first enter the Tower, Eva Levante will have a quest for you at the Tower courtyard. Named Gone but Not Forgotten, this short quest gives a brief overview of how Festival of the Lost has changed in 2021, showcasing the new Haunted Lost Sector activity and the Book of the Forgotten vendor.

The quest is broken up into the following steps:

  1. Speak with Eva Levante
  2. Acquire and equip a mask
    1. Eva will give you one for free
  3. Acquire 3 Spectral Pages and 100 Candy
    1. Spectral Pages drop on activity completion
    2. Candy drops from slain enemies and activity completion
  4. Complete a Haunted Lost Sector
  5. Create 2 Manifest Pages
    1. Done by activating Summoning Rituals in Haunted Lost Sectors
  6. Speak with Eva once again

If you want to get step three done quickly, boot up a Vanguard Strike or Crucible match—whichever you prefer. Both game types will give you four Spectral Pages and around 100 Candy. If you're still low on Candy, explore the tree near Eva Levante at the Tower to grab 410 Candy.

Candy And Spectral Pages

Destiny 2 Festival of the Lost Candy Emote

Candy is Festival of the Lost's seasonal currency. While you're wearing a Festival-themed mask, every enemy you slay has a small chance of dropping one Candy. Tougher foes drop more Candy, and activity completions drop substantially more Candy. In-game, they look like blue Motes.

Tip: You can find Candy hidden around the Tower. The tree beside Eva has 410 Candy you can grab for virtually no effort.

Spectral Pages can be found by completing any activity in Destiny 2. Ritual activities—Vanguard Strikes, Crucible, and Gambit—drop four pages. Haunted Lost Sectors can drop up to seven Spectral Pages a run. You can convert these Spectral Pages into Manifest Pages by completing Haunted Lost Sector runs, unlocking exclusive lore entries tied to this event.

Book Of The Forgotten Location And Use

Destiny 2 Book of the Forgotten

The Book of the Forgotten is a book you can interact with at the Tower. It's right beside Eva at the Tower courtyard. This book contains 27 lore entries you can unlock by spending Manifest Pages you've found during this event. The first few lore entries cost two Spectral Pages, but these will become more expensive as you more of them. You'll need 194 Manifest Pages to unlock every lore entry from this event.

Haunted Lost Sectors

Destiny 2 Festival of the Lost Haunted Lost Sector

The Haunted Forest has been replaced with Haunted Lost Sectors, Halloween-themed variants of Destiny 2's numerous Lost Sectors. Haunted Lost Sectors are started from a playlist found in the Tower Directory. Unlike normal Lost Sectors, Haunted Lost Sectors have matchmaking and playlist modifiers.

When you enter a Haunted Lost Sector, you'll need to push through most of the sector like normal. When you reach the boss arena, Summoning Rituals will begin to spawn in the area. These are capture plates you need to stand on. When the bar reaches 100%, a Haunted One will spawn. It's effectively a Hive Knight with a pumpkin head that can deploy a 180-degree shield at will.

Tip: Bring an Anti-Barrier weapon to pierce the Haunted One's shield.

Destiny 2 Festival of the Lost Haunted One

You have five minutes to kill as many Haunted Ones as you can. They are somewhat tanky, so be sure to bring some hard-hitting weapons to take care of them. When the five minutes are up, a final boss will spawn. This boss has three phases, each broken up by an immunity shield. To strip this shield, you'll need to complete Summoning Rituals and defeat Haunted Ones to spawn Pumpkin Charges. These are explosive orbs you can throw at the boss to lower its shield. Break its shield, lower its HP by 33%, and repeat until the boss is slain. A chest will spawn shortly thereafter that'll shower your team in Candy and grant one of three weapons from this year's event.

Festival Of The Lost Rewards

Destiny 2 Festival of the Lost Dinosaur EV Armor Set

It wouldn't be a Destiny event if there weren't new items to chase. Festival of the Lost has three weapons you can farm for this year: Braytech Werewolf, Horror Story, and Jurassic Green. These weapons are obtained by completing Haunted Lost Sectors.

Eva Levante will also sell masks themed around certain Destiny 2 characters you can purchase for a varying amount of Candy, and there's an Exotic Sparrow named the Headless Horsepower you can obtain if you manage to purchase all six masks from Eva Levante. Doing so will cost 27,300 Candy.

Jurassic Green God Rolls

Destiny 2 Jurassic Green

Jurassic Green is a reprised version of the Lincoln Green from Year 1 of Destiny 2. It's a 540 RPM Solar Pulse Rifle with exceptionally high stability and aim assist. If you've used Gridskipper from last season, this weapon feels very similar. Unlike its Y1 counterpart, this variant rolls scopes instead of barrels.

As for perks, this is the only 540 RPM Pulse that can roll with Rangefinder, giving this weapon a noticeable range buff. This can be paired with classics like Multikill Clip, Frenzy, or Dragonfly to enhance this weapon's lethality. Jurassic Green can also get High-Caliber Rounds to inflict an absurd amount of flinch against opposing Guardians. Overall, Jurassic Green is a powerful PvP Pulse Rifle that has an effective range that most 540s dream of having. For PvE, this is a solid replacement for Gridskipper.

  • PvE God Roll: Any Barrel, Ricochet Rounds, Subsistence OR Rangefinder, Frenzy OR Multikill Clip
  • PvP God Roll: Hammer-Forged Rifling, High-Caliber Rounds, Rangefinder, Multikill Clip
