Destiny 2's Season of Defiance has a new ritual weapon for Guardians to chase. Ecliptic Distaff is the first ritual Glaive in Destiny 2, and it's the first Void Glaive to roll with Destabilizing Rounds. If you love using Glaives in PvE or Volatile explosions in general, this weapon is for you.

Even players that don't enjoy Glaives will still want to get Ecliptic Distaff and its ornaments, as this weapon is tied to certain Seasonal Challenges in Season of Defiance. This guide will showcase how to get Ecliptic Distaff and its ornaments, and we'll showcase all perks that this weapon comes with.

How To Obtain The Ecliptic Distaff

Destiny 2 Commander Zavala Reward Track Season Of Defiance

The Ecliptic Distaff can be obtained by reaching Rank 16 with any ritual vendor—Commander Zavala, Lord Shaxx, and the Drifter. You can increase your rank with each vendor by playing their respective ritual activity. Zavala oversees Vanguard Ops and Nightfalls, Shaxx runs the Crucible, and the Drifter runs Gambit.

Once you reach Rank 16 with any vendor, head to the Tower and speak with them. The weapon will be in their reward track. This is also where you'll find Ecliptic Distaff's various ornaments once you reset that vendor's reputation status. Once Season of Defiance ends, you'll be able to purchase Ecliptic Distaff from the Exotic Kiosk for an Ascendant Shard and some other common materials.

Ecliptic Distaff Ornaments

Destiny 2 Ecliptic Distaff Glaive

As with previous ritual weapons, Ecliptic Distaff has three unique ornaments to chase. You can earn Ecliptic Distaff ornaments by resetting your reputation with a vendor and reaching Rank 16 again. For example, the Vanguard ornament for Ecliptic Distaff drops by resetting Commander Zavala's reputation and reaching Rank 16 again. All three ornaments and their acquisition methods are detailed below.

Aegean Spindle (Vanguard)

Destiny 2 Ecliptic Distaff Aegean Spindle Ornament

The Aegean Spindle is the Vanguard ornament for Ecliptic Distaff, obtained by resetting your Vanguard Rank with Zavala before reaching Rank 16 once again. Completing Vanguard Ops and Nightfalls will increase your rank with Zavala. We recommend farming Vanguard Ops if you're a newer player to increase your reputation. If you can handle it, higher difficulty Nightfalls (notably Master and GM difficulty) grant far more progress.

Vermeil Spindle (Crucible)

Vermeil Spindle is the Crucible ornament for Ecliptic Distaff. You can acquire Vermeil Spindle by resetting your Crucible Rank with Lord Shaxx and increasing your reputation to Rank 16 once again. For clarity, this ornament is tied to your Valor Rank, not your Competitive Division, Iron Banner, or Trials of Osiris ranks.

To increase your Crucible Valor Rank, we recommend farming rotating playlists like Mayhem and Momentum Control. Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris matches also increase your Valor Rank.

Virescent Spindle (Gambit)

Virescent Spindle is the Gambit ornament for Ecliptic Distaff, earned by reaching Rank 16 with the Drifter twice. Reach Rank 16 in Gambit, reset your Infamy, then reach Rank 16 again to receive this ornament. Gambit is arguably the slowest ritual activity available, so this ornament might take a few play sessions to earn. We recommend waiting for a double Infamy week before farming this ornament. Beyond that, focus on invading the enemy team to ensure your team wins, granting bonus Gambit reputation.

Ecliptic Distaff Perks

Destiny 2 Ecliptic Distaff Perks

Ecliptic Distaff is a Void Glaive with some fantastic perks. Unlike most weapons in Destiny 2, ritual weapons have static rolls, meaning Ecliptic Staff will always drop with this selection of perks. The first column can get Immovable Object or Replenishing Aegis, a new perk that loads a single shot into your Glaive upon blocking damage, triggering once per second under sustained fire.

The second column can get the fantastic Close to Melee perk, the only Glaive perk that buffs melee damage. If you prefer shooting Glaives, Ecliptic Distaff is currently the only Glaive that can use Destabilizing Rounds, inflicting Volatile on nearby foes when your projectile kills a target. You can use your melee attack to detonate the Volatile debuff, giving this weapon some fantastic add-clearing potential.
